106  eHam Forums / Elmers / Testing a Bird 43 Wattmeter on: September 30, 2007, 03:26:31 AM
Just trying to keep the landfills from filling up.
107  eHam Forums / Elmers / Testing a Bird 43 Wattmeter on: September 24, 2007, 03:30:10 PM
I have a bird 250H slug that is out of calibration. It is not the meter. I have other slugs that are right on the money. I contacted Bird to have it repaired and they told me that they don't do that anymore. Buy a new slug. So much for customer service.
108  eHam Forums / Elmers / Icom Service manual on: September 21, 2007, 04:16:45 AM
If Icom says that the service manual is not available, keep trying.

I have an ic290h. I would call their 800 number periodicly intil one was in stock.

Don't give up.
109  eHam Forums / Elmers / DC power plug for Yaesu VX-2R on: September 18, 2007, 03:40:48 AM
If you make up a power cord, put a #47 bulb in series to limit the current. This will help keep the battery from overheating and catching fire. I found out the hard way.
110  eHam Forums / Elmers / Old 2m rig, no P/L on: September 15, 2007, 06:12:07 AM
I got an Icom 290H used. The previous owner had installed a small encoder in the HM8 mic. The hot line was connected to the power switch for the tone pad. It works fine. It was a hard wired tone selection, but with a a few changes a dip switch model could be used. Doing it this way doesn't require modifying the radio.

Good luck with the project.
111  eHam Forums / Elmers / backup battery on the ft-757gx on: August 21, 2007, 06:04:08 AM
The only real drawback in using the AAA battery pack is the possibility of the cells leaking.
The button cells are sealed and the possiblity of leaking is a lot less.
I personally would not yse the AAA pack.
112  eHam Forums / Elmers / TR2200 circuit wanted/help on rx problem on: May 28, 2007, 09:34:16 AM
I bought a reprint of the manual from Alvin Bernard a few years ago.

113  eHam Forums / Elmers / Cooling Fan for HW-101? on: May 20, 2007, 01:23:38 PM
When I used the hw101 I had a drift problem.

I had a 115 volt 4" muffin fan in the excess parts box.

(I don't like the term junk box)

I placed the fan over the finals drawing the air out.

This seemed to correct the problem.

Hope this helps.
114  eHam Forums / Elmers / Radio Shack HTX-242 2 meter Mobile! on: February 13, 2007, 05:34:52 AM
On page 14 in the service manual, the low power adjustment is RV2. The manual says that the range is from from 10 to 15 watts. the nominal power out is 13 watts.

I did not see an adjustment for high power.

Play around with it. You might be able to change the value for RV2 to get the results you want.
115  eHam Forums / Elmers / Proper Atenna for TenTec Omni-D on: January 11, 2007, 06:33:33 AM
I would put the antenna switch on the back of the rig to receive. Connect the antenna to the RCA jack above the SO239 on the back. Then for safety sake, connect an dummy load to the SO239 on the back of the rig. Be sure you keep the drive control (the one at the upper right) all the way counter clockwise.
The OmniD is a good rig for CW. You will enjoy it. It is a good basic rig without all the bells and whistles.
116  eHam Forums / Elmers / Quick question on: January 11, 2007, 06:19:57 AM
I include my license and all public service connected with my ham activities. This will give an insight into your committment.
117  eHam Forums / Elmers / TE-32 on: November 25, 2006, 05:36:57 AM
I use the TE-32 with an Icom 290H.

I connected mine to the tone burst input on the mother board and the tx B+

You might inquire at www.com-spec.com or the Icom web site.

You also might check with mods.dk

If you can find a service manual for your radio, there is a lot of information that is'nt in the operators manual.

Good luck

If you are using a cassette tape for code practice, use headphones. It keeps the distractions down and seems to drive the code into your head more.
