Link worked fine But It isn't as user friendly as the old site.
I can not scan the heads.
I have to wade through the text to find what I am interested in.
Take a good look at the QRZ website.

For the casual reader, there must be an easier and more direct way to get there.
I prefer the old format.
My logons have diminished since the change.

As a first rig on HF, do not get a qrp rig.
When I got my novice license, I built a HeathKit HW8.
After about 6 months without many contacts, I built a HW101. After I got more experience, I then used the qrp rig.
Get one that has the basic controls. Then you will concentrate on operation not adjusting the rig.

It was a few years ago, but there were enough questions on tubes that could keep you from passing. Otherwise it was like taking the general.
I asked one of the examiners why the tubes. He said there were a lot of surplus tube equipment still in use.
Go for it. It looks nice on the wall.
One of the industry certifications is more important if you are going into the business.

I would advise him what a fair price is for his equipment.
I would also advise him to take a "vacation" from ham radio to clear his head.
If he is determined to sell, I would offer to manage the sale for him. That way he wouldn't get the shaft from the predators.
No matter what he desides, advise him to keep his license current. He might want to get back into the hobby later.

I bought an 8 conductor mic cord and put RJ45 connectors on each end.
By cutting the old cord about an inch from then and removing the insulation down to the individual wires, you can match the colors for each end.

Cell phones got the wives off of the repeater autopatches. Now you want to get them back on? Lets just limit ham radio to those who appreciate it.

I have a Regency R1080 programmable 10 channel scanner.
I use it to monitor 6 meter, 2 meter and 70 cm local frequencies. I also have the local weather programed although it is locked out for scanning.
One of the advantages of this one is that it holds the programing even when the power fails.
I also use it to monitor my audio when working on vhf and uhf radios.
It is not worth much if I wanted to sell it, but it does the job for me.
BTW someone gave it to me.

Instead of complaining about K1MAN on the web, Flood the FCC with complaints about the K1MAN's violations.

Dredging up old posts.
Would it be possible to lockdown old posts after a reasonable time has passed?
With the new system, these old posts take up valuable space.

If you do not mind a really tall antenna, the Hustler CG144 will out preform any 5/8 wave. It is a coliniar.
I use a second one with a groundplane kit as my station antenna. It has withstood 2 huricanes without any dammage.

eHam Forums / Elmers / 40 meter rotating dipole suggestions?

;-)
If you live near a rail yard with a round house, You could build a shack on the turntable and stretch a dipole from the ends.
You might even have enough room for an 80 meter dipole.
