1  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / RE: AlexLoop vs Buddypole vs ??? Portable HF Multiband sought on: June 16, 2013, 02:22:52 PM
I went on several mountain biking/backpacking events way out in the boonies on top of a mountain ridge here on Oahu and the Big Island of Hawaii with my Yaesu FT817.  Lugging the Buddipole was a pain and made me think twice about brining it out ever again.  Yeah it's light but after 45 minutes of climbing uphill on a MTB, it weighs a ton plus being slung on my shoulder it flops back and forth irritating the heck out of me.  My last trip last July, I brought my LNR 20m end fed (think it was pre-LNR made by PAR Electronics) and it was like heaven.  The rig plus the antenna all fit inside my Camelbak MULE hydration pack and that's my plan for field day next week.

XU7TZG is frequently on air from Kompong Som using PSK31.
Nearly everyone must have already worked Wim, as he doesn't attract big pileups.

Wim, XU7TZG is very active.  You can email him for a sked and he's good at keeping that sked.  I even spoke with him via Skype until my account got hacked and had to shut it down.
3  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / RE: What is the AK-47 of HF Amplifiers? on: June 15, 2013, 12:21:08 AM
My question is:  Assume you are on a faraway planet.  Just where do you buy
ammo for the AK 47???

I reload my own with my Dillon RL550B.
4  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: Most Ridiculous DXCC Entity on: June 13, 2013, 01:02:48 AM
I'm still waiting for Gilligan's Island to be activated

Don't bother--they don't QSL worth a darn.

Maybe the Professor can't break away from romancing Ginger and modify that white radio to upload qsls into LOTW.  Just need more coconut cups and everyone stirring harder/faster.
5  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: Is this a joke? on: June 13, 2013, 12:59:38 AM
Maybe "QSL You're also a 59" could be giving coordinates of our strategic bases.  5NN could be attack!  On the other hand, 5NN could be Playmate of the Month measurements.
6  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: Brainstorming: is there a better way for the DX to avoid QRM? on: June 09, 2013, 01:48:26 AM
QRMers = Meat Puppets
7  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: TX5K QSL Status on: June 08, 2013, 10:10:25 PM
It looks like it's dead.  If the Cordell DXpeditioners were Eco-unfriendly, there would be plastic water bottles all over the island, beer bottles and spilled gasoline.  The left the island cleaner than before they arrived.  With all the trash floating around the Pacific Ocean, they are #1 Earth Friendly in my eyes.  Yes I love and hug trees when not dxing Wink
8  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: You know conditions suck and you are bored when there's a huge pile up for...... on: June 04, 2013, 11:13:02 PM
WWW Coordinated Universal Time
9  eHam Forums / Antenna Restrictions / RE: Rant on: June 04, 2013, 12:24:40 AM
Use those yapper dogs as traps on a vertical and run legal limit through them see if your signal improves  Cheesy

I hear ya, I'm in the same boat but knew about the HOA antenna restrictions - no ham antenna greater than 9 feet high and I have to apply for variance.  I have a zero five 29 ft multiband vertical on a fold over mount.  When in use (usually in the evening) it goes up and early morning before work I drop it.  Sometimes it's up all weekend.
10  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / RE: Vertical Antenna on Flagole? on: June 02, 2013, 01:09:47 PM
Sure it'll work, just tie wrap the coax from the antenna to the ground every say 3-5 ft to avoid tangling with the flag rope.  I have my GP-1 leaning against the vinyl fence and it works very well.  Just imagine it on top of the flagpole, you could work the International Space Station with ease.
11  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / RE: Coax for Hexbeam on: June 02, 2013, 01:03:04 PM
I'd use RG8X since it has lower loss than RG58 but not as bulky as RG8 or RG213.  IF you're going to have runs >100ft than you should use RG8 or RG213.
12  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / RE: Splicing wire in a dipole question on: June 01, 2013, 03:49:37 PM
Splicing will be fine, I just tie in a knot, hi
Bob

You could also solder it back together, use butt connectors and crimp them together or even tie them together.  I've done this many times with no affect on performance.
13  eHam Forums / Station Building / RE: K3 or ftdx3000 on: May 30, 2013, 10:04:05 PM
Nothing heard yet.  All I see are rumors on the Elecraft reflector.
14  eHam Forums / Remote HF Station Control / RE: Remoteshack on: May 30, 2013, 01:07:34 PM
Remotehams RCFORB Client/Server looks even easier Grin
15  eHam Forums / Station Building / RE: Watt meter on: May 30, 2013, 01:05:28 PM
I have the Telepost LP100A and it's awesome.  Had it for 3 maybe 4 years now and still going strong and it even matches my K-Line!
