I Just checked LOTW log processing status, and it appears that they are still working on logs submitted 11 days ago. I am aware of the large amount of data that needs to be processed, but is this normal? I upload my logs and pretty much forget about it. But I dont remember it being back logged this much previously.

Gene, you are right. This is actually funny to me: I was hearing him say "7T5 Zulu India Portugal", when he was actually saying "7T5 ZERO India/Portugal. Thanks!

eHam Forums / DXing / RE: LOTW little used outside NA - I have a 2.6% response rate :(

Simon - most of my contacts are DX stations (non-NA) and I am running close to 40% LotW confirmation rate. I'm very satisfied with LotW, for the first time ever (42 years as a ham) I have qualified for 5BDXCC and 5BWAS. Most people I know find it to be fantastic.

I am very disapointed with LOTW response. I will continue to upload all QSOs, but have started SASEing again because of only about 16% response. Will take me more years than I have left to complete my awards objectives by only using LOTW.

My results are in about the 36% range, give or take a half point. Most of my operation is DXing and contesting. 15,155 QSLs for just under 42,000 QSOs.
Peter, I am wondering if your better percentage of confirmations on LOTW may be because you work the contests. I don't know, but would think, that contesters would be more likely to upload their contest logs than the noncontesters would.?? I wish I was getting 36%, but it's really sad that this great money saving tool is ignored by the majority of hams. There are several awards that I want to achieve, and that is why I have gone back to sending SASEs with my paper cards (while continuing to use LOTW), Even though it is very time consuming and costly. Cheers!

Uploaded the Logs with over 4000 contacts, got back 1400+ confirmed contacts and 119 mixed DXCC points confirmed Wow a lot better than I thought, an automatic DXCC Certificate without sending in my QSL cards, you just can't beat that.
[/quote] I would be very happy with those results. I am uploading all qsos to LOTW and am only getting a 16% result. Looks like I will have to start sending SASEs to get my 5BWAS.

I had about 67 countries via paper QSL, so when i take out the duplicate countries I have 137 total. I am wondering how I should proceed, which of the extra 19 countries should I drop from my application and save for my second DXCC? The 19 most difficult like China, Faroe Islands, Tiawan etc. I figure their is a best approach system for this, any help would be greatly appreciated. Robert I would be very happy with those results, however, I am only getting about 16% confirmations in response to my uploads. I may have to go bak to SASEs to get my 5B WAS

eHam Forums / DXing / Logging Date Format: DDMMYR?
|
on: November 08, 2011, 05:00:51 PM
|
|
I notice that most DX cards I receive the date format is DD-MM-YR. I use HRD for logging, the computer cofigures the format to automatically be in MM-DD-YR here in the US. I upload my logs to LOTW and to eQSL. So, if my uploaded files are in US regional format, wouldn't that mean that electronic cards might not find a match date wise, and would result in no confirmation?

I specifically called ARRL HQ recently with this question, and I was told to use the Post-It note trick. I did it and there were no problems.

Sounds like post it notes are the way to go. BTW, great that you got through to them by phone. Last week I put in numerous calls, all were answered by main switchboard, but never got through to Awards dept. I suspect they are pretty busy. Tnx for info. KC

BTW, I am sending 134 QSLs. Hoping that I will get credit toward later endorsement applications. Will that work? Yes. If you think you'll ever be serious about a certain band or mode that you're not chasing at the present time, you may as well take the credit for that QSO now. The credits will sit there in perpetuity (and if it's a bandfill, it will count towards the DXCC Challenge, too). Even if it's only one QSO on one band it doesn't matter. I submit everything. It does make the application far more costly, however! OK, sounds like good advice. Been working on DXCC for many years, actually going back to 1964. I am submitting some cards that are now deleted countries, but hoping they will count since I worked them when they were active. Thanks for the info to all respondents. 73

When I send cards to Newington, I fill out the DXCC record sheet that is part of the DXCC application filling in all contacts that I want credit for. That way, there are NO POST-IT-NOTES to become lost or mis-applied. What I want is plainly delineated. It takes a bit more time, but worth the effort.
Thanks for clearing that up for me. I will record all on the tally sheet and make it clear that I want credit for all. BTW, I am sending 134 QSLs. Hoping that I will get credit toward later endorsement applications. Will that work?

I got my cards sorted properly, but noticed this additional instruction: ""You must mark those qsos on your cards for which you wish credit". I don't get this instruction. I wish to get credit for every card that I am submitting. So, what does that instruction mean, and how do they want the cards marked?
