eHam Forums / Licensing / Verification Of Previous Call Sign

I held a call sign many years ago that gave up when i upgraded. I don't believe that the original call sign was ever reassigned. I can't find any of my old licenses to verify that I held that call sign. Is there a way to get verification? I have a bunch of DX qsls for that callsign that I would like to use toward DXCC, and am guessing that that I will have to prove that was my call at the time. Any ideas appreciated.

Take a look at AE7Q's call sign database. It is updated daily and has excellent advice on obtaining a vanity call, as well as all calls currently available. There are not may 2X1 or 2X2 calls available, but they do come available from time to time. AE7Q is one of the better ways to keep up with what's available. Good luck. KC

I also think you should stand up for what you think is right.
You gonna wait around on the government to solve all your problems?
Great idea on publishing OO reports in the magazines. It may have the same impact as publishing names in the local newspaper of arestees. Also, it seems to me that that the language and subject matter are usually among hams who know each other and become too comfortable in their rag chews. I have never had a ham use language when in QSO with me. But, if they did, I would mention it.

I have worked some DX with current call sign, and quite a bit more DX with 2 previous call signs. What are the rules regarding DXCC, WAZ, regarding QSLs received under previous call signs? BTW, one of my former callsigns has been reassigned to another ham, however, I held that call sign for several years and have a nice little stack of QSLs for it. Tnx, K3ZL "KC"

Can you do the normal trick of switching to sideband, making the signal disappear, then switch back to CW to have a perfect zero beat? Easier on the 430 since you have seperate mode switches unlike most rigs now which just have 1 mode switch...
Kris, that sounds simple enough. Does that really work? Reminds me of when I was a novice using seperate TX and RX...zero beating was a snap. Tnx for this tip. KC

What I do is to set my RIT to 800hz and zero beat that. 73, Mike, KL7MJ
Mike, give me that procedure again; Do you mean zero with main tuning, then set RIT to 800hz? Also, is that + or - hz? thanks, KC

I agree, and I don't like it at all either. But it may get worse. Popular Communications magazine reported in it's October issue that a court has ruled against the FCC's rules regarding the prohibition of bad language during hours when kids are likely to be listening or watching. Here's the part that concerns me: They are saying this turn of events could effect all FCC services including the Amateur Radio service as well. THAT'S disgusting. I thought Amateur Radio was a privilege, not a right. Thanks for that info, K.C. Here's a link to that news about the court decision: http://www.w5yi.org/ama_news_article.php?id=483

Tnx, Ken. Yes, I have been comparing them. When I bought my TS830 new in the 80's, the main reason I bought it was because at the time it was receiving great reviews for its receiver section. I have found it to be quite good. I bought my R2000 about a year ago in great condition, and find myself listening to it when I am not actively operating. But just was interested in other's take on this.

I have both of these radios and don't use the TS-830S at all. But as a stand alone receiver that can be used to scan the ham bands while (both SSB and CW) I'm operating with my currently used rig, which one of these 2 would make a better receiver for monitoring the bands? The R-2000 or the TS-830S? Both are in good working condition.

There is a kit sold that may work: http://wb9kzy.com/zerobeat.htmAlso if you use the radio next to a computer, cw software like CW Get has a feature to visually zero beat the received signal to your sidetone. Tnx, N4IAG. I ordered the kit from Chuck last night. Just what I was looking for. Tnx, K3ZL

With the Kenwood TS-430S zero beat is accomplished by matching the tone of the station I want to work at the same pitch as the built in side tone. At my age, it is difficult to do that quickly, as I am getting more tone deaf. I have turned up the volume of the side tone, which helps, but my question is: Is there a modification or some after market product that I can use to help with zero beating signals easier? Something that uses an LED light for example.
