Tnx, Phil. Yes, I have VOX on. My bug and straight key both work perfectly on CW. I borrowed a friend's Heath 1410 and get the same result. I also have a home brew keyer that works perfectly as well. Strange.

I picked up a nice HeathKit HD-1410 "ultramatic" keyer at a hamfest. It appears to work fine, but won't key my Kenwood TS-430S transceiver. It will key the transceiver built in side tone, but doesn't send any CW signals. Any ideas appreciated. tnx 73, Keith

I have a nice Ten-Tec Model 645A keyer. Just wondering if anyone has tried changing the plug and using this keyer with Kenwood transceiver?

eHam Forums / Station Building / AT-250 Cable For TS-440S

I have the AT-250 external tuner which is supposed to be used with the TS-440S (as well as others), and I have a 8 pin connector cable that came with the tuner. However, there is not a recepticle on the 440 which matches up with the cable. There is 1 eight pin socket on the TS440, but it won't take the cable, and the TS440 manual states that this socket it is to be used for a linear amp. Would appreciate any suggestions for using this external tuner with my transceiver.

eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / RE: RFI With Loop & Ladder Line
|

My shack is located upstairs about 20 feet above ground. I have a ground system that includes several ground rods and ground wire running continuously from the one below to others in a path around my house. I am using an 80 meter loop fed directly with 450 ladder line. In the shack I am feeding it to a 4:1 balun with short piece of RG 213 from balun to rig. There are no ground loops, as all grounds are routed to a simgle groud point which is the neg side of the balun. What is the best way to solve RFI problems in the shack?
The ground or lack of a ground has NOTHING to do with RF in the shack if your antenna system is working properly. It should not matter, RF wise, if it is connected or if it is disconnected. You could have a multitude of problems causing the RFI. The antenna could be too close to the house. The antenna could be grossly unbalanced by something around it. The feedline could be bad. The balun could be bad or a bad design. The feedline could be a length or routing that aggravates common mode currents. You could have an open shield on a cable. The antenna might be exciting the power mains and bringing RF into the shack that way. It could be any of a dozen things or a combination of things, but since this is Internet the proper thing to do is give a quick answer and hope it works. :-) Before I guessed and suggested what to change, I would want to know some details. I would want to know what type of balun you have, how long the feeder is, how far from the shack the antenna is, if the antenna is near the power lines, if you checked all your cables, what kind of RFI problems you have, how much power you are running, and if the loop is reasonably well installed, if the feeder comes away from the loop at right angles........but that's just me. :-) My first guess would be a balun problem like N3OX suggests, but I hate guessing without adequate basic details. 73 Tom I rewired the ground as Dan suggested, tnx for the link very helpful. The balun is a Balun Designs model III 5 kw. The antenna is about 50 feet from the shack, no power lines or any other metallic objects near by. Fed through my shack window with the MFJ window feed through, ladder line to the balun, then short feed with 50 ohm coax. I changed the ground by using coax with a capacitor shunted from center conductor to shield on the inside, and shorted center to shield outside and run to the ground rod. Tnx for the help.

eHam Forums / Boat Anchors / Drake 2C With 6 volt tube?

I bought 2C recently and notice that the V1 tube is a 6BZ6. The manual says that the V1 is a 12BZ6. Also, Others have said that they never saw a 2C with the 6BZ6. However, the chassis clearly is embossed with the 6BZ6 label for that socket. And, the pin for the heater measures out a 6 volts. My question: Have any of you on this forum seen this in other Drake 2C's? I can send you pictures if you email me. The serial number is 1631.

Thanks to all. I will follow the links provided and get up to speed on this antenna. I am also considering putting up a Horizontal Loop antenna instead of the g5rv. Any thoughts aappreciated.
