I was about ready to order a KPA-500 but again checked out the THP 1.2 specs
after reading this post. I cannot find a compelling reason to change directions and
order the THP 1.2 instead of the KPA-500. 73...Sam W8VVE
I can think of a few.
KPA-500 = $2300 for 500 Watts output using 2x VRF2933 in the finals for a total max of 600W in the finals (100W headroom)
Tokyo Hy-Power = $2579 for 750 watts using 4x SD2933 in the final for a Max of 1.2KW in the finals that's (450W headroom)
The PA board in the 1.2KFX is exactly the same as the one in there 1.5Kfx which is a 1KW amp.
Reliability track record of the 1.2Kfx is phenomenal, just check the reviews on eham.
Tokyo HY-power is the Mercedes Benz of Amps, the build quality both inside and out is second to none.http://www.tokyohypower.com/images/hf/hl-1_2kfx_i_hires.jpg
The 1.2KFx when hooked up to a proper 220V or 240V supply can easily put out 900 Watts and I have done quick tests going to 1050 Watts as measured on an LP-100A meter. It runs at 750- 800 Watts all day long.
So for $279 extra your getting the best bang for the buck. The Elecraft does have autoband changing with a typical extra purchase and that's a nice thing to have but if that's not a major issue to you the 1.2KFx blows past it in every other way.
