1  eHam Forums / Contesting / RE: Non-Ham Reception Report? on: January 22, 2013, 07:20:13 PM
Huh-I never thought of QSL cards-what I had in mind was to just have a thread in here where we can post up what hams we heard making a decent distance trip.

I like the idea. There is already a SWL forum, maybe the Admins could break it down to "HAM" and BROADCAST" sub-forums.
2  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / RE: Dedicated RF on: January 05, 2013, 03:31:49 PM
A public forum really isn't the place for this

Then why did you do it here? Mike's post was neutral -- he basically said he was no longer affiliated with your company. Then you had to jump in and say he was fired. Tacky, tacky.

Agreed.
3  eHam Forums / Misc / RE: Calling all Yaesu Ft-1000MP owners! on: January 02, 2013, 02:01:22 PM
Ya know I could be wrong ( Grin ) but I do believe that all Yaesu radios come with a microphone. I have purchased several new Yaesu's over the years and every one of them came with a hand mic, no matter if base or mobile. Same with Kenwood and Icom.

4  eHam Forums / Misc / RE: Hams using the 11 meter band with ham equipment ! on: December 30, 2012, 01:26:19 PM
Hi
What makes you think that are licensed hams?
Why would they want to be on the 11 meter band?
Makes no sense...
JohnB

I know several HAMS local to me that use their HAM equipment on 11m, and they ARE HAMS, I don't have to think they are HAMS, I KNOW THEY ARE HAMS. And a few of them have slipped on occasion, blurting out their HAM callsigns by accident. Why they talk on 11m? I don't know the answer to that one. It doesn't have to make sense. And it has been happening for a long time, not just recently.

5  eHam Forums / VHF / UHF / RE: Is crossbanding between Amateur / GMRS legal? on: December 17, 2012, 10:18:51 AM
If you think I'm wrong, then just ask the San Mateo County Sherif's Department.

Actually, don't, they're too busy to be bothered by idiots.

WOW! someone needs to take their meds...

No reason to get your panties all ruffled!
6  eHam Forums / Mobile Ham / RE: Amazon's $50 dual-band HTs on: December 17, 2012, 09:05:39 AM
I got one--not from Amazon, but from a dealer.  When I received it, the darn thing wouldn't work.  Charged the battery, checked and cleaned the contacts, in short, did everything but open the thing up to troubleshoot it.  It still didn't work.  When I returned it, the dealer told me that it was a common problem, but the things worked well.  How they 'worked well' if that was a common problem is beyond me!

I was offered a replacement, but opted for a refund.  No thanks--I won't order another.

So which make and model did you have a problem with?

Just curious...

Browning Golden Eagle Mark II series B with SSB15 transmitter
SSB & AM transmit; uses expensive 20pf crystals 10.695Mhz below channel frequency

K8AXW

As pointed out by AXW, the cystals are in fact cut 10.695mhz below the operating frequency for the Golden Eagle Mark III...

http://www.cbcintl.com/XTALS/Browning%20Mark%20III.pdf

The cystal you need is 16.490mhz, which will cover transmit and receive.

Everybody has their good points--and their bad.  After all, Heil Sound lets RadioMart market their wares!

Irrelivant.
10  eHam Forums / Mobile Ham / RE: Amazon's $50 dual-band HTs on: November 26, 2012, 05:54:09 PM
I bought 3 of these at a HAMFEST for $110. All 3 worked fine right out of the box, and have been reliable radios. Wide band rx-tx a plus also. At this price they are "disposable".
11  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / RE: Need Hubs Avanti Moonraker 4 for use on 10 meter. on: November 24, 2012, 08:29:05 PM
I aquired a new-in-the-box antenna, but no hubs.
Anybody have some ?

I'd like to convert for 10 meter...

Thanks for any info you may have.

I've seen them on Ebay but just did a quick look and none listed right now. You might look at Cubex Quad, look at the spreaders on the bottom of the page...

...if they will fit your boom diameter.

12  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / RE: W8JI - Is it worth buying a new Ameritron AL-80B? on: November 23, 2012, 06:34:14 PM
Happy Thanksgiving to all. Well, Todd, its been about a month since you posted. I believe you decided on the AL-80.  The first line of your post is what caught me, "I am on a limited budget". Well so am I, which is why I followed this post as it wandered around, trying to answer your question.

I bought an AL-811, used, thru Ebay several years ago. It has worked well, with one new set of tubes last year. But I'm looking to upgrade soon after the Holidays, so have you received your new amp, and how is it working?

13  eHam Forums / VHF / UHF / RE: How Do I Program SAR Freqs Into My Yaseau FT-2600M on: November 17, 2012, 04:35:10 PM
N6QS,

Your first mistake was coming to this forum and asking the question. You should have gone to the guys with the Alinco radios and asked THEM where they had their radios modified, then had it done. Unless someone "dimed you out", no one would be the wiser. Then you could have avoided all the lectures about the legalities, and the sarcastic remarks, which are so typical on here.

I'd be glad to help you if you want to contact me off-line.

And thank you for your service.
