Anyone that spends money supporting the Maldives Government and their Resorts is a real piece of work. Have they not heard of the boycott yet??? It's only a Google search away.

http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/344481

I mean REALLY? ..... President Mohamed Nasheed defended the practice of flogging, declaring that whipping women "is noble and civilized"

Just saying, not a nice bunch of people they are supporting by spending cash there.

Yes I have been to their site. You notice they don't sell them nor do they supply enough 411 to build one. Is it even real? The vertical with suspended radials is real but can you line up three in a row and they become directional?
The Garden Beam would be akin to cold fusion or perpetual motion. Maybe that's the reason there is so little real info??
5  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / RE: Garden Beam on: March 20, 2013, 08:37:04 PM
If so, they sure went to quite a bit of trouble to pull it off ..... Web site and all not to mention the photoshop work involved. As I read it it's more of a directional vertical with suspended radials???
If it is a April Fools joke it was well thought out and executed even better. ;-)

In April 2013 issue of QST I read an interesting article about an antenna called the Garden Beam. I have searched the Internet for any detailed reference material with little luck. My question is if I wanted to replicate the Garden Beam or a single 20 meter band variant are there any detailed plans floating around?

I built and installed a full wave 80 meter skywire loop antenna at 40 feet. What a difference. Good clear copy now.

A filter adj helped with the water fall, thanks. As far as the gibberish must be weak signals. I'll try a different antenna in the next few days and see what happens. Thanks again for the suggestions. And thanks for the welcome to PSK.

Just set up a PSK31 station one week ago with the following. IC-7000, SignaLink sound card, HP tower with dual core and tons of ram, Windows XP,  Digipan 2.0, Icom AH4 tuner, ladder line to an 80 meter dipole at 45feet.
I live in Tucson. I have had good contacts with Russia, Germany, Spain, Argentina, Dominican Republic, Italy,  Northern Ireland and many states.
My issue is...Digipan allows me to monitor about 27 different signals at once. Most of the time out of the 27 only 2 are readable the rest are just gibberish. It looks like a 2 year old is playing with the keyboard. Today I have been checking 20 meters off and on and have not found one complete readable contact all day long just a word here and there or a call sign that's it. I have been thought the set up instructions many times but I assume I have missed something. Night before last almost every signal was readable, not perfect by any means but readable. The other issue I have is the visible waterfall only covers the first 1/5 of the screen the other 4/5s remain black but the curser still pops into the black area indicating a signal is there???

Any help would be appreciated.

Speaking of spies, the FBI and such. Today I happened onto a news report of a great bust TSA made the other day  Grin

A public school teacher was arrested today at John F. Kennedy International airport as he attempted to board a flight while in possession of a ruler, a protractor, a compass, a slide-rule and a calculator. At a morning press conference, Attorney General Eric Holder said he believes the man is a member of the notorious Al-Gebra movement. He did not identify the man, who has been charged by the FBI with carrying weapons of math instruction. 'Al-Gebra is a problem for us', Attorney General Holder said. 'They derive solutions by means and extremes, and sometimes go off on tangents in search of absolute values.' They use secret code names like "X" and "Y" and refer to themselves as "unknowns" but we have determined that they belong to a common denominator of the axis of medieval with coordinates in every country. As the Greek philosopher Isosceles used to say, "There are 3 sides to every triangle." When asked to comment on the arrest, President Obama said, "If God had wanted us to have better weapons of math instruction, He would have given us more fingers and toes." White House aides told reporters they could not recall a more intelligent or profound statement by the President. It is believed that another Nobel Prize will follow. Cool

David you may be correct about the copyright issue in this case and I hope everyone that downloaded the PDF copy of Practical Antenna Handbook deleted it as I have after discovering that it was a full copy of the book and not just a sample edition that Amazon has on their web site. Good job David. Nice to see that there are plenty of Police around here to advise us about these moral issues. You know stuff like right and wrong, god and the devil. Since I no longer live with my mom I do need guidance at times. Thanks again.

Nandu

Good catch, yes it is Joseph J. Carr not Cox. Thanks for the clarification. There are numerous receiving antennas but also quite a bit of easily understood theory that applies to all. With 574 pages it has some of everything. Is it the ARRL Handbook? No but I believe For $12 it's worth having in the library.
Again thanks for the correction.

Happened across a great antenna book. Practical Antenna Handbook written by Joseph J. Cox. Published by McGraw Hill. It's 574 pages and has all the information contained in numerous ARRL publications that cost $24 each. This book can be found on Amazon in paperback, used for $12. Or you can buy it new in paperback for $39.95 or in hard back for something like $130. Perhaps this should be one of your first antenna books. Or 6th. Now I wouldn't give $130 but absolutely for $12. Has anyone else run across this publication?
