The club that I will be with operates QRP only on field day. Campground on Cascade lake, fishing, boating, eating, adult beverages, and "ham radio". Can't help but have fun. As for the tuner, I will have to check that out. Thanks, John

Anybody out there building the new Hendricks Survivor SSB transcever? Just ordered the kit, looking forward to building and using it. Plan is a qrp field day, 10 meters during the day, 75 at night.

My solution is to do away with split operation completely. The DX station is taking up 3 to 5 khz of band and the lids answering are taking up 3 to 5 on either side with thier mistuned amps and it is all just a mess.

Sounds like the neighbors invisable dog fence. I had a very simular noise and did all the things mentioned here. A fellow ham that works for the power company found the noise after fixing grounds and transformers on thier service. The dog fences are so noisy that the company has a kit available to fix the problem! My neighbor was very co operative, installed the noise kit and the problem is gone.

Thanks for the input. I have considered the 922 so I can be all Kenwood. Is there a retrofit to put these on 160? I see them on Ebay all the time for what seems reasonable prices. Thanks again. John It seems that the 922A already has 160, sry,my mistake.

OK, lets stir the pot. I have no antenna restrictions, have two towers with beams, various dipoles and understanding neighbors. My old Swan 1200x is just rebuilt but I think I would like something modern to put behind my Kenwood TS-430S. I operate all over HF, AM, SSB, and CW. CW is mostly QRP though. What can I buy for $1000.00 / $1500.00 or so? Quality is my first concern, I still have my Kenwood TS-520 that I bought new in the mid 70's. It is still good as new!

I am in the process of putting up a 3 element 17 meter beam. I have that figured out, I think. What I want to do is put a 12 meter rotatable dipole above the 17 meter antenna. I have read the .2 wavelength of the higher freq. is OK for separation. Might I place the dipole 90 degrees off the beam? Any benefit from this? Both antennas are to be resonant in the middle of the band. I hope that is. All advice appreciated. John, KJ7YY

Anybody planning to homebrew a rig for the "new" 630 meter band? A qrp CW rig, tube type would be cool. Suggestions?

Your noise sounds very simular to the problem I had here. After searching and having the power company torubleshooter come out it turned out to be an electric pet fence a couple of houses down the street. A filter installed on the fence box solved the problem. Good luck, John KJ7YY

I have not checked for shorts, but it didn't blow a fuse either. I will check the rectifiers tho. The filter caps are new. Thanks for the help. KJ7YY

I have an old Swan 1200-X that I have had in storage for years. If I remember right, I am now 65 years young, it quit working and I just put it in a box and put it in storage. I reciently dug it out and tried to fire it up. Very loud buzzing the moment I turned it on. On further review I found a burned resister between one of the tubes and what I think is the bias circuit. I replaced the resistor and while I was inside I replaced all four of the tubes, 6LQ6s, and and all four of the filter caps too. It still buzzes loudly so I shut it off after just a couple of seconds. Maybe a transformer problem? Any advice would be appreciated. By the way, I found one of the filter caps installed backwards, I can't imagine any reason for this but I am sure it used to work. There has been some modifications that are not in the owners manual. Thanks in advance, John KJ7YY

I like the "Small Wonders" idea as I am building a Retro-75 right now. However, what you got to lose by tearing into the free radio? Maybe the giver really doesn't know what is wrong. Could be a simple loose connection or some such thing. Never assume anything. The worst you can do is break a radio that doesn't work now. Good luck. John
