For your entertainment. How about drums and Morse? Code is catchy. Wink

hmm...I don't notice any delay, or maybe it's so short I can't tell. When I hit the paddle, I hear instant sidetone, and key the radio simultaneously.

The only time I had a sidetone delay was when I tried running the audio through a dsp app on the PC. That drove me nuts very quickly, I guess similar to what FlexRadio users complained about.
3  eHam Forums / CW / RE: Ten Tec 1553 Electronic Keyer on: April 07, 2013, 06:59:00 AM
The only thing I know is that it's not for iambic operation.

Quote
Description:
A classic circuit and a nice price make this a great project for beginners or for building into extra rigs. Includes speed control, weight control (rarely offered in "simple" CMOS circuits) and sidetone pitch control. A lot of keyer for the price, it features self-completing dits and dahs for standard single-lever keyer paddles. While not designed for iambic operation, the price and reliability make the 1553 a very nice introduction to electronic CW keying.

There was a favorable write-up in the August, 2012 CQ magazine. Maybe if you can find that?

Quote
"Finally among this month's features, we have a CQ Review of the Ten-Tec Model 1215 "Ten 'T' Tuner" kit. Reviewer T.J. "Skip" Arey, N2EI, says it's an excellent kit for the new builder and an excellent accessory for the experienced builder as well."

Amazon Prime is great if you buy a LOT of stuff but it's not good if your just making a couple dozen orders per year.
They make their money on the people who under utilise it, so make sure you are a heavy shopper before enlisting.

There's more to Amazon Prime than free shipping. My wife gets lots of streaming TV shows and movies, plus free books with Prime, on her Kindle fire. And I have the Amazon Instant Video app on an iPad that gives me the same goodies. Plus with the free 2-day shipping, it's a good deal for us.

But you're right, if you only use it for free shipping, and don't order much, it's not such a good deal. Though with high shipping costs for 2-day shipping, you don't really have to be a heavy shopper to recoup your $79.

You should be able to hook up the audio from your radio to the line-in of your sound card and use that as your source.

They're not new, but here's some to look at:

Cynthia Wall wrote a series of ham radio novels, similar to the Hardy Boys.

http://www.amazon.com/Cynthia-Wall/e/B001KCOTOU/ref=pd_sim_b_bl_3

And Walker Tompkins wrote a series back in the 50s. Here's a couple of them.

Not a series, but has Morse code:

Any of the code readers, free or paid, should work fine for this. CWget, CW decoder, MRP40, Fldigi, etc.

I wish more people would check their sending. They may be surprised at what they're actually sending. Wink

I am glad you posted here Bob,

Your life with your rooster seems to be one where you both match each others personality.
And it is important to have a partner where you each have similar interests.

For your rooster it is in scratching the earth looking for insects amongst his own droppings.
And for you it is scratching around eham looking for attention, and places to lay your own droppings.

I feel genuinely sorry for you Bob, you never seem to have a happy thought, and that is a life lived poorly.

I guess you were once a happy young lad, who thought he would see the world, but never managed to get beyond his back fence.
So you lash out at others who did do worthwhile things, and some who died while doing their duty.

I knew a young radio officer who died at sea, while sending the position of a ship which was sinking.
He did not make it off the vessel, and his actions saved many of the crew.
He was 21 years old, and had not even started his life, but gave it for his duty and shipmates.

How much have you ever given for others?
Or is all you can show for your life leaving poison posts on forums.

73 - Rob

Great post! I think that was a very accurate and well worded response.

And the post of PA0BLAH that you replied to was one of the most mean-spirited posts I've ever had the displeasure to read anywhere.

GW3OQK  -- Thanks for posting, I love this sort of stuff for some reason. Smiley
10  eHam Forums / CW / RE: Android: learn fast CW with Koch method on: August 04, 2012, 10:56:01 AM
Tpelle, I just wanted to mention, once you learn the code, there's an iPad app called CWText. It's great for 'on the go' word practice. Well worth the 99ยข imo.
11  eHam Forums / CW / RE: Suggestions for unlearning CW, learned via Code Quick on: July 06, 2012, 09:56:54 PM

30 years ago I ordered Code Quick, taught myself the code and passed the 13 wpm test. So I can't say too much bad about it. Without it I would have never become a ham.

I never had to unlearn anything. As mentioned, you have to start somewhere and with more practice under your belt, you will naturally become faster and the "sound a likes" will disappear and not slow you down. Good luck to you.

I wonder if something like this would work?

14  eHam Forums / CW / RE: New guys ... do us all a favor ... on: June 16, 2012, 06:52:27 AM
It's not just the beginners, they mostly try to go slow and  deliberate. But I hear way too many mid to high speed ops that don't have a clue what a space is. Whatever the case, it's very tiresome to try to make sense of run together code.
15  eHam Forums / CW / RE: Looking for Gordon West code tapes on: June 10, 2012, 05:32:43 PM
Universal Radio still has some 0-5 and 10-28 tapes listed, if that would help.
