It has been my experience that learning code uses or should use the part of the brain that comprehends music. There is a great cassette tape out there IF you can find it called "The rhythm of the code". It teaches you how learning the code from a music standpoint makes it a lot easier. Here it is. I don't know how useful it is for learning the code...but it is catchy http://youtu.be/QP0iX_hO7m4

eHam Forums / CW / RE: Sloppy CW sending: I hate it!

How can you learn to send well if you don't have someone who can tell you how well (or not) you're doing?
I am in the process of learning CW and for sending practice I use software. My WinKey keyer came with a program called wktest that will "read" my CW and translate it into text. I can do this without transmitting. Not only does this tell me if I sent the correct character vs garbage, but it also Oshows if I got the spacing right. Too fast and your letters run together - usually producing garbage, but sometimes a different letter or number than what you intended. Too slow and you get spaces between the letters. My first priority has been to send the correct characters, even if they are a bit slow. Then I work on smoothing it out so I can get a word without spaces between the letters. -Jeff Another program for the Winkeyer is C-Typer, from the K1EL site. It's very useful for sending practice, programing and sending memories, change wpm etc. In options there is one called autospace. When on, it forces you to send absolutely perfect code. Don't leave it on for live sending. Think of it as a heavy bat, like the on-deck batter uses to warm up. If you can send good with autospace on, you'll feel like a pro with it off.

I'm away from my pc but I think it is 5.1. I downloaded and installed it last week.
I found the tab for eQSL and put my info in it but it does not create a eQSL entry when I add a new record in HRD. That is the part I cannot find info on, I will look at ARRL for LOTW directions.......
TNX, Bob
In my version (5.11) go to Tools>Configure>eQSL.cc, add your user name and pw and tick the 'upload every time an entry is added' box. Or upload them manually by right clicking on a log entry(s) and select eQSL.cc upload.

When pigs fly.
With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine. Actually these pileups sound more like kindergartners at recess. Glad I have them in the book now. Some people say "If you can't beat them, join them". I say "If you can't beat them, beat them", because they will be expecting you to join them, so you will have the element of surprise.

My apologies for not checking this thread for so long. I rarely miss the chance to plug our work: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4483q01HTv4 This is the most recent with the Cory Yeager Band. I'm on the viewer's left. I'm also on some tracks for Loudfinger and Creed Fisher. That's some good stuff! I like very much. Thanks for the link.

Using or not using a CW filter, to me, is like comparing the driving your car 70 mph and listening to your favorite song with the windows down (no filter) or with windows up (filter).

I haven't needed to try this, but maybe this is what you're looking for.
On top menu select Logbook > Databases > Manager > Add. Name it what you want. Then open it by selecting that name you entered.

Thanks for the reply.
I haven't opened mine up yet to look inside.
I'm assuming you just connected a switch between the positive and negative wires leading to those two pins on the Molex connector? Some how I'm thinking it wasn't as easy as that. But I'm assuming the open circuit occurs at the Molex connector and therefore bridging those two pins with a switch will close the circuit.
Do you happen to remember the current rating for the switch you used?
I just saw on another website that you should bridge across Pins 3 and 6. Well, not bridge and keep live current flowing all the time, but use a switch across the two. Is that what you did?
HI, yes this sounds the same as what you're talking about. All you have to do is open the PS and clip the 2 wires used for the radio switch (the ones going to pins 5 & 6) inside towards the back, where they go to the cord (leave enough to reconnect again if needed) splice if necessary and connect to toggle switch. I used a heavy duty toggle switch, because I had one, but the switch wires were pretty small gauge as I recall and the switch I used was overkill. All you are doing is providing a means to short the 2 wires together, thus turning on the PS. The PS-55 will now be useable with many 100w class rigs. Hope this helps.

I had an ic-718 and ps-15 which also did not have an on/off switch. The 718 doesn't have the ability to switch on the ps. What I did was install a toggle switch on the front of the ps, hooking it to those extra 2 wires and everything worked well by turning on the ps manually.
