I think the above comment was uncalled for. No need for foul language. While you may not agree with him, there's no need for such a comment like that. james WD5GWY Looks like eHam removed the post. I agree though - such foul language was uncalled for from "RFDOG". If you look at his posts they are all like that. I am surprised that eHam has not kicked him off the forums yet. Clearly he is an anonymous coward.

Initially reported problems are so pervasive that one wonders how this $500/$650 receiver is being tested before shipment. Low audio on HF and an S-meter that sits around S9 are instantly apparent even to SWL buyers. From that, I'm guessing a grueling Sherwood Engineering testing gauntlet would turn out... well... ludicrous. Doubt we'll see CR-1's amid K3s and Alpha amps in Multi-Multi contest stations. Just in: First report on its VHF/UHF performance http://forums.radioreference.com/software-defined-radio/256366-new-sdr-commradio-cr-1-a-11.html Looks like they concentrated on adding all kinds of fancy features to the menu system and forgot to concentrate on the basic functionality needed as a receiver. What is really telling is that in their demo videos, you can clearly see the S meter is not working correctly during the demo. They had to be aware of this bug before shipping the radio.

.... The only thing pan adapter radios will be good for soon is watching all the splatter on the ham bands. It wont be good for much else because so many companies and hams have such a low level of technical understanding and reasoning. Actually its worst than that, they just dont even get it why TX IMD is such an important.
Not so: once you get your Hermes and build your 50V LDMOS PA you build an RF tap, connect it to your PA, connect the whole thing to a dummy load. You eventually connect an attenuator to your RF tap so you can connect it safely to the RX connector of Hermes and download the single RX version of HPSDR PowerSDR which can do full duplex. Voila, you can adjust your PA for the best IMD and instead of ranting you can brag on how fantastic is the IMD of your PA. Don't forget, you also get a free VNA with Hermes. Jean-Claude PJ2BVU The problem is for every one guy who is concerned about having a clean PA and builds their own, there are 10 guys who either don't give a crap or don't understand the difference. This can be seen any day on any of he HF bands. At any time I can count tens of operators splattering all over the bands with their crappy ill- or over-driven amps. Guys, the morons have won and they have been that way for some time now.

I dont know why Flexradio cant design a clean decent amplifier for their products. I see active promotion of RM Italy CB class C products on the Flexradio reflector, just another reflection of their poor technical knowledge. Now I read another post on the Elecraft reflector. Another joker promoting his poor IMD Flex1500 and using it with a trashy splattering RM CB amplifier. I guess the moderators on Elecraft are going easy on all the new KX3 owners who will be doing the same. The worlds best QRP radio will be used with the worlds worst CB amps and the who cares if the crud kills your new 10,000 dollar receiver. Ignorance is bliss!
Flex can't even put a decent PA in its top of the line $8000 radio. If they did not do it with that, they never will. This shows their technical incompetence. All the high performance receivers in the world won't be worth a crap with all the splattering transmitters and amps out there. Heck, you might as well not spend much more on the receiver than what the lowly $500 Alinco HF rig costs - at least you'll have 100 watts.

Strictly directed at trained homeopaths who know about RF impact on remedies.
Please, no jokes, no guessing, no unqualified comments—this is serious stuff.
My questions are: are homeopathic remedies at risk of rendered ineffective when subjected to VHF/UHF radiation from a 5W HT inside the house? What are safe distances to keep the remedies away from such radiation's harm (handheld antenna)?
I am the ham, my wife is the concerned homeopath.

If they had a Win7 UI mode as an option, a full implementation of the UI with all keyboard short cuts and all, then a lot of people who use their computers for work, real work not just putzing around with picture, games, or web surfing, would be happy.
Just install classic shell and that is exactly what you get. You can even play around in Metro if you want with classic shell installed.

eHam Forums / Software Defined Radio / RE: Flex 1500 Amplifier Recommendations ?
|

I have been doing a LOT of reading about IMD lately and I can clearly see now why it is not a good idea to put any amplifier behind the Flex 1500. The numbers listed by the ARRL testing labs really do speak for themselves. It is better to use the 1500 as-is, as a qrp radio instead of driving an amp with it. Its IMD numbers even at 5 watts is not that good. But, will create less problems than it being amplified. W8JI gives a good explanation about what IMD is and is not. Thanks to everyone that keeps pounding on that here and elsewhere. Whether you know it or not, some of us do get around to trying to learn more about IMD , including the cause and the cure(s). james WD5GWY
Again, the ARRL test are at full power output. As soon as you reduce output, the ARRL numbers are no longer valid. Until someone can produce numbers at half or quarter output or whatever it may be, I don't see how anyone can make such a blanket statement on the suitability of putting an amp behind the radio. If I run full power on the 1500 on any of the bands my amp covers it WAY overdrives it. I would never run the amp and radio in that manner. I cannot speak for other hams. From what I heard on the bands today and tonight, their are many hams who have no idea how to run any amp regardless of the exciter. I heard a yahoo on 40 meters early this evening who had a signal about 10 khz wide! No one could do anything around him. I mostly run digital modes and a little CW anyway and only rarely ever use SSB which is when I find I actually need the amp. On the rare occasions I use a little more power on digital, I don't think there are any issues with my signal or I would have heard about it by now. Believe me, their are a lot of guys out there on digital who will let you know via e-mail very quickly if their is ANY issue with your signal whether it be audio or RF related. I've already explained earlier why I can't afford a higher powered radio. Don't you think I'd like to have a Flex 3000 and an AL-811H or an even nicer amp if I could??? My voice is hoarse from breaking pileups today and I sure don't break them all. This is my last comment on the subject. I have put together a small low/medium powered station that I enjoy and that is within my hobby budget without affecting my families lifestyle and I refuse to be judged for that. Especially by the likes of SOME of the posters on this forum. 73, Michael, W4HIJ Sounds like with your hobby budget and family lifestyle you'd be better off on the CB band. Over there you wont have to justify why you run crappy CB type amps that crud up the band - you will be right at home!
