1  eHam Forums / Mobile Ham / Great Lakes Marine Mobile Net - Ham Radio Net for boaters. on: April 30, 2013, 10:09:08 PM
07:30 am Central on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
The HF frequency is 7.268 MHz LSB, just after the Waterway net on the ICW.
VHF 2M in the Chicagoland area is 146.760 MHz FM, PL 107.2 (Echolink node number 62478.)
Echolink KC9SGV-L node number 528436
IRLP Great Lakes Reflector, node number 9619.

This year we will have some exciting additional features to play with during the nets.
We are adding a brand new HF Remote server here in the shack.
Several other HF Remote servers are available to us around the Great Lakes this time around.
Note: At least a General Ham Radio licence is required for this.

Also new is the use of the Echolink APP for Iphone and Android phones from your boat.
With this APP you will be able to contact the net control officers directly in their shacks on Echolink/IRLP.
The range for 3G and 4G on the Lakes is about 3 to 5 miles offshore by testing.
Note: At least a Technician Ham licence is required for this.

The Skype APP for Iphone and Android will also come in handy this year for non-hams.
You can contact KC9SGV-remote on Skype directly in the shack.
Note: No licence is required for this.

All information will be on our website at http://www.glmmnet.org
2  eHam Forums / Digital / RE: Sending A Spreadsheet Via HF Digital Modes on: December 07, 2012, 10:44:20 AM
Hi,

Check out Winmor for spreadsheets, pictures, maps, large text files, GRIB files, weather sat. pictures, etc.

Fast, efficient. Do not re-invent the wheel.
And you can do this with free software (unless you want to donate to the developers.)
You do NOT need an expensive TNC.

Hi,

I had almost the same issue on the Icom 735.

Quick fix was to have the USB plugged into the computer, but unplug the audio patch caqble with the 1/8"  plug connectors.
Worked fine for all digital modes after that.
Turn up the computer inbound audio on the Wave slider control as well as the soundcard control (under Tools, I believe.)

Not sure if the audio patch cable creates a ground loop or what ?

Hi Ben and All,

Connect to my HF station for fun using the RCForb client from http://remotehams.com....=)
You will need Skype for my station as well.

See my old Icom 735 and the S-meter live on video.
The antenna is homebrew and cut for 40M.

5  eHam Forums / Remote HF Station Control / RE: RemoteHams on: November 30, 2012, 06:36:24 AM
I agree.

I have been playing with remoting my ham radio staion for a number years to connect to via my laptop during my travels for work.

On VHF I use Echolink and IRLP, but for HF I now found www.remotehams.com
This is by far the easiest solution on the web today and is in constant development now.

Download the FREE client software and/or the FREE server software for Windows and start playing with a growing number of about 25 HF stations worldwide for now

Ask to tune first, and if no response is received, start tuning.
This is done by direct entry or by pointing and clicking on the digits or by grabbing and dragging the tuning knob around.
Remember you will share the station with many other hams, but usually you will be the only one there.

To get transmit privileges, you have to ask for permission and a copy of your licence will be uploaded to the server operator station (sysop).

The software has it's own VOIP client, or you can use a FREE Skype
computer to computer call.
Skype also allows for a live video link to some stations and will connect automatically.

The server software allows for a 3 minute timeout timer to guard against stuck mikes etc.

Identify as "Yourcall operating the Servercall Remote."
Please disconnect when you are done.

One of the brand new < 300 baud compliant PSKMail modes maybe ?
Still in Alpha..., but very exciting.
1000's of words/minute...
9  eHam Forums / Digital / RE: VK2ETA 300 Baud max new modes for the U.S. on: April 14, 2012, 03:13:33 PM
Absolutely.
That is exactly what it means.
Attachments, small images and all.
About as fast as dial-up.
But you could be on a boat in the middle of the ocean, without the Internet.
So access your email from thousands of miles away from the Internet. - For FREE.

Testing is underway for some exciting new and fast PSKMail modes.
11  eHam Forums / Emergency Communications / RE: ICS 213 and ARRL Radiogram via PSKMail on: March 25, 2012, 07:32:31 AM
So,

If FLMSG cannot be run unattended, enter PSKMail with FLMSG, which can be run totally unattended.
I.E., a PSKMail email from the disaster area via HF or VHF with a FLmsg form as attachment, can sit on the receiving ham's, PSKMail client, or even the served agencies' normal Internet email client waiting for convenient retrieval.
All that is needed is for the receiving ham to run FLmsg on his computer as well, to receive the attached FLmsg email in the proper ICS form format.
He can then forward this properly formatted form to the served agency via normal Internet.
Now, with PSKMail also, the disaster area ham can send a FLmsg type form directly to the served agencies' email address via a PSKmail server 1000 miles away, tied to the Internet.
All that is needed, is for the served agency to also run FLmsg on their computer, and they open up the attached FLmsg form in the proper format.
Only the very narrow band text gets sent very quickly via radio.
The form software already lives on the two computers, and no wide band bit map images need to be sent via radio.
So handy.

13  eHam Forums / Emergency Communications / ICS 213 and ARRL Radiogram via PSKMail on: March 19, 2012, 07:25:21 PM
Hi All,

Just reporting that you can download via HF radio, a low bandwidth (for radio transmission) ICS 213 form and a low bandwidth ARRL Radiogram form, from the KC9SGV-5 PSKMail server in Chicago.
These forms are in the "Files" section on the server.
The forms can be opened by your normal Internet browser, such as Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox and then edited (filled out) by using "Paint" or the like already on your computer.
It can then be sent via HF radio to any EmComm recipient via PSKMail as an email attachment.

The server frequencies are:
Day
7.103.0 MHz USB dial - Try all daytime frequencies
10.147.0
14.110.0
Night
3.595.0  Continuous

KC9SGV,
Chicago.
