106  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: Totally stressed out by a DXpedition? on: November 21, 2012, 09:16:42 PM
I think we need to remind ourselves at times "It's Only A Hobby". We get so wrapped up in chasing DX that we forget what's really important. So that's why I don't get too stressed if I miss one. We usually get another chance to work them again, and if not, so be it. If I do miss one that I really wanted, I usually try to evaluate why I couldn't make the QSO. Do I need to change my pileup techniques or was there something else I could have done better? Is there another antenna I could try? etc.

You are not allowed antennas at your condo and yet you managed #1 Honor Roll and 7BDXCC. I think every person in a HOA would like to know your secret if you don't have a remote operation Smiley

So how did all this Antenna stuff and HOA's and politicians work out?

Stirring the pot again Ron? I really have a hard time understanding you. For a avid DX'er such as yourself, I would think that you would be against draconian antenna restrictions that many HOA's use. From your QRZ.com page, I see that you live in a HOA and have acquired #1 Honor Roll and 7BDXCC. But I'm willing to bet good money, considering you have been licensed since 1954 that you DID not acquire those awards while living in your HOA. Am I right?

So just out of curiosity, what antennas did you use to acquire those awards? Somehow I doubt it was done using a 30 foot flagpole vertical out in your front lawn Smiley

109  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: Anything Listed in 2013 that You Need For an ATNO? on: November 21, 2012, 10:10:11 AM
I'm hoping for one or more of these to be activated in 2013:

3Y0/B, E3, FR/G, FR/T, FT5Z, KH5K, KP1, VP8/S

Please, not Bouvet, Eritrea or Glorioso--I have them already from within the last decade.

I'm sure there are a lot of us who don't have those yet so I say "Bring em' on!". I'm sure they would still generate the pileups. However, I would gladly sacrifice any of those for a P5 or KP1 operation even though I already have the latter. Considering how hard it is to activate Navassa I know it would be a once in a lifetime shot for a lot of DX'ers.

110  eHam Forums / DXing / WA4DAN/CY0 & AA4VK/CY0 OQRS Link? on: November 20, 2012, 05:43:04 PM
Does anyone have a OQRS link for their recent operation from Sable Island? It's mentioned on their site but I haven't been able to find it so far:

http://www.cy0dxpedition.com/DXpedition-QSL-Requests/qsl-information.htm

I would prefer just sending money for the cards plus a small donation.

The only one on the 2013 list that I don't have is Burundi, 9U4U. That's one of the few remaining ones I need to complete the African continent besides Libya, Western Sahara, Burkina Faso, and Eritrea.

Before the current PT0S operation the Brazilian government had said there would be no further operation from St. Peter & Paul Rocks and that was just a few months ago:

http://dx-world.net/2012/st-peter-and-st-paul-future-dxpeditions-prohibited/

As you can see, things change. All it takes sometimes is the right person making the right contacts and what we thought could never be is suddenly on the DX Calendar.

Two of my PT0S confirmations came through this morning on LOTW, 17M CW and 40M SSB. So at least those are beginning to process and it's nice to get that one confirmed!

PT0S just finished up a bit ago on 20M CW. Although I'm comfortable copying up to around 30WPM if conditions are good, the op that just finished was doing around 35 - 40 WPM at least. If anything, that just slows down the QSO rate because people are not copying when the operator is calling leading to re-sending, more QRM, and frustration.

117  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: PT0S may be the one that ends it for me...... on: November 17, 2012, 01:15:35 PM
Don't give up Vince! The PT0S operation is frustrating at times, especially with the lids, but it's obvious that you do a good job of outsmarting the pileups if you have 281 confirmed with no amplifiers and just using wire antennas. Keep plugging away and I'm sure you will get them in the log soon enough Smiley

ARGH!!! My 80M CW QSO on the 15th is not in the log.  Cry And I know I heard it repeated back perfectly. Seems like they might be dropping a lot of Q's for some reason or one of the computer logs didn't get uploaded before the last update at 0928. But this taught me I need to start recording my QSO's just in case this happens again. At least I would have some recorded proof.

John K7KB

Whew! The 80M QSO finally made it through on the online log. It must have been one of those that didn't get included on the initial upload because of their internet issues. So next time I'll wait a couple of days or so before I start getting worried Smiley

Well I can understand why the OMISS net? was upset by the large spread. I guess that reminds us as DX'ers we have a responsibility to listen on our calling frequency to make sure we don't interfere with someone. At the same time, the net had no right to send their police to patrol those who were accidentally calling on their net. That is intentional interference. And you would hope they would understand that this might be the last operation from St. P & P for quite sometime. Let's just hope the team can tighten up the spread a bit so that it doesn't become the zoo like it did this evening.
