eHam Forums / DXing / RE: How are the 7O6T signals for you West Coast DX-ers?

Yesterday afternoon I heard one of the 7O ops calling for W6, Southern California only. I'm not sure how the Northern Cal guys felt about that, but I hope he was working both I did think it was a bit unfair for us W7's also on the West Coast but then I had to consider the W7's in Nevada, Utah, and Arizona that have a bit of a propagation advantage. It wasn't a big deal to me because I'm already in the log. John K7KB

Has anyone received a 9L0W card yet for their late November, early December 2011 operation? I sent for the QSL back in December but nothing so far.

I really lucked out the other night. After I got home from work, I went down to the shack to see what was going on and noticed that 6O0CW was spotted on 14.270. So clicked the spot to get the transceiver on frequency and heard them, not real strong, but copyable calling for West Coast only. I dropped my call a couple of times and it was done That probably won't happen anytime soon, but it was nice for a change not to fight my way through the East Coast pileup brawl. John K7KB

I hope they do a bit more RTTY, especially on some of the other bands like 17M where they have seemed the loudest from my QTH. When I've heard them before on 20 meters it was just a zoo and they were not that loud at the time. I didn't stand a chance to break through the East Coast wall. One digital QSO would be icing on the cake John K7KB

Having worked FO0XX in 1985, this wouldn't be a all time new one, but I still wouldn't mind working them on a few more bands than just the one contact on 40.

I know this is not exactly soon, but something to look forward to for next year "Cordell Expeditions is pleased to announce a DXpedition to Clipperton Island in early 2013. The team of 24 will sail from San Diego on Feb. 19, and will be QRV Clipperton for 10 days starting around March 1. We will be active on all bands and all modes, and we will use DXA, the satellite-linked system that displays near-real-time log data on any web browser." I would say probably Curacao. That's why you see the super station PJ2T on top of the contest charts during most every major contest. Not only the nice station they have, but close to the equator, near the top of a hill, next to the ocean. I think they picked a good spot John K7KB

I don't know for a fact what kind of equipment he is using, but I have a feeling the antenna is probably a vertical or dipole and running normal or low power. I've listened on the spotted frequency myself and heard other Europeans work him, but not a peep at this end. I'm glad I was able to work JX5O last summer John K7KB

It's unfortunate that this happened, but I have to agree with Gene in the hope that something can be worked out between the two groups. There is always someone who will get there first, but it seems that there is always room for another DX'pedition. If they concentrate on Europe, then concentrate on other areas like the West Coast ( ), Asia, Oceania, etc. I'm sure you would have no problems filling the logs, that's for sure. John K7KB

Charly: From what I know, Simon is British so items 3 and 4 on your list probably don't apply for a non-US citizen. The UK might have their own rules about operating out of Myanmar, but I don't have the inclination to do the research. As far as asking Simon to produce proof of his charity work, I don't think that should be necessary, especially now that he has changed his QSL policy. If you were donating directly to his charity operation, that would be a different story. As far as providing proof of his license, that's up to him and the DXCC desk. I'm sure they will be asking for documentation before they will allow it to count for DXCC credit. But my advice for those who might hear XZ on the air would be to WFWL (Work First, Worry Later) John K7KB

You will get there Rich, don't give up I think I heard you yesterday in the pileups trying to work them on 20M phone when they were calling for West Coast only. I think I was about their last Q before they opened it to everyone. At least they are giving us a chance and that's nice of the operators there. Hopefully once the frenzy has died down a bit you will make it in the log. John K7KB
