301  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: What in OC / AS Have You Missed? on: May 02, 2012, 10:41:02 AM
Well for all of you East Coaster's that haven't worked many of the OC/AS stations, don't feel you are alone. I got back in the hobby 1-1/2 years ago after being inactive for almost 20 years so missed out on many of the DX'peditions or operations like BS7H, Kingman, Ducie, Conway, and the list goes on. I'm sure I'll get them if they become active again, but the wait might be long for some of those.

302  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: How are the 7O6T signals for you West Coast DX-ers? on: May 02, 2012, 10:22:57 AM
I have a FT1000 Mark V with the second receiver and I've felt it very useful on snagging new ones. It's not always easy finding the station being worked, but if you do, then many times you can snag the expedition either right after, or within a couple of jumps if you can determine the listening pattern.

303  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: DXpedition question on: May 02, 2012, 08:23:06 AM
The guest operator and the OP who is on the DXpedition can set a time and frequency ahead of time, fpr example.  Where is the skill in that?  The guest operator should have to break the pileup just like everybody else for it to count!

So you are saying that any of the operators who are on the 7O6T team, with the dangers and expense involved in such a operation, are not allowed an easy contact with their own DXpedition? Wow, you are hard core Smiley I think they should be allowed all bands on all modes on a schedule if they want.

Send an email to the manager.  I received my card just in the last couple of weeks.

Unfortunately, the manager doesn't list his email address on QRZ.com, or at least I haven't been able to find it so far. I'll just send him another card. Sounds like he is sending them without any problem so mine probably just got lost in the mail.

I finally snagged them on 17 CW this evening, about 10PM Pacific. The band was shutting down when he finally pulled me out of the pileup, or at least I hope so. He was starting to get at ESP levels by this time. Now the excruciating wait to see if I'm in the online log Smiley

Thanks all for the info. I'll wait a bit longer and if nothing comes through I'll just re-send and give it another shot.

Shall we send you a BIGGGG amp now, or do you already have one? hi hi  Good Luck, Gene AF3Y

And Gene respectively requests that you don't use a Spiderbeam  Grin

But seriously, let us know if we can help in any way.

310  eHam Forums / DXing / QSL's from EK6TA? on: April 24, 2012, 11:42:42 AM
I was just wondering if anyone has had any problems getting a QSL from EK6TA in Armenia? I worked him last September and sent a SAE/Greenstamps to his listed manager (DJ0MCZ) shortly thereafter but haven't received anything back so far. I realize that sometimes managers get stuck in the middle waiting for logs themselves Smiley

It would be nice to get the card for this one because it's the only Armenian station I've worked so far. I would like to work a few others but they just don't seem to come up that often, and if they do, they are usually un-copyable at my QTH.

The last Saint Martin station I worked was FS/DL2RUM on CW and RTTY this past December. So it is activated, although not that often.

312  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: TO3X, St. Barthelemy DXpedition on: April 19, 2012, 07:53:46 AM
Bob: I don't think I've worked this particular DXpedition to St. Barthelemy but I have worked a couple of others in the past over the last year or so. I think it's activated enough so that if you don't get them this time, there is always a chance later. But I wish you luck in snagging this one and hope you get them in the log Smiley

I really don't understand why people are getting so upset over this operation. From what I've read, the Malaysian government has just started to allow operations from the Island and there is a good chance that more will follow. Just a month ago, OH2YY was operating from Spratley.

I missed working Annobon Island a few weeks ago and although I was disappointed, I didn't throw a tantrum. I knew that we just didn't have great propagation here to the left coast, my antenna system is OK, but not the best, and the DX'ing Gods were not with me at the time. But I also realize that there will most likely be another DXpedition there soon, so I'll get another chance.

Now if you miss working a really rare one like North Korea, Navassa, or Bouvet, then you might have a reason to throw a tantrum Smiley

I thought this was pretty kewl. A Macquarie Island webcam Smiley

http://www.antarctica.gov.au/webcams/macquarie-island

I worked Trevor about 6 months ago on 15M. I already had Macquarie from a operation many years ago (VK0GC) but it was nice to work Trevor as well. I hope he has safe travel back home, and I look forward to working the next operator who makes it there.

This evening (9:30PM Pacific) I noticed they were spotted on 12 meter CW. I didn't think we would have propagation this late in the evening, but sure enough, they were strong enough for a QSO on the first call. So that's 3 bands and 3 modes now. Still need 10, 20, and 40 but I'm happy with what I have so far Smiley
