1  eHam Forums / Repeaters / RE: Setting up and maintaining a repeater on: April 02, 2013, 10:25:41 PM

Absolutely....I personally own 2 repeaters with no club, no committee, and I do not take contributions.  If someone doesn't like the way the repeater is working or if I have to turn it off they can go use something else.  My repeaters are capable of APCO25 digital in addition to analog and I still get calls to this day "telling me" that the repeater is broken cause they heard all this digital intereference and I " need to do something ASAP to fix it".  I usually blow off these sort of calls, but really...if you don't like it move on.  There are lots of other available repeaters in the County.

You must have one of them fancy Quantars  Tongue

I own 1 repeater 2m and its enough for me. But kinda like you no club no committee but I will take donations.
If only this stuff was cheaper....

Yep they are fancy Quantars...  Grin

oh my. I wanted one well still do. but cost so much.

3  eHam Forums / Misc / RE: The Kenwood 990. A new HF operating paradigm on: February 04, 2013, 12:56:06 PM
Well if I had 8000 dollars to spend on a rig I would buy it right now. I will admit to be a Kenwood fan but I simply can not spend that much on a rig. I will keep my 480HX for a while longer. If I had 8000 dollars to spend it would go into antennas, towers, etc. Now if any one wants any ideas what to get me for Christmas...

im a kenwood fan as well. but still. Id rather have a 950,940,930,870,850,690,450,440 then the 990.

why are you crying about it?

Because some people still strive for common decency in the world.  Garbage offends whether encountered for a few hours or a few seconds, its still garbage.
Tom

and i say times change.. at one time it was immoral for a woman to show her belly button on tv. now you see much more then that. times change people need to get over it

why are you crying about it?

seriously. old rule dont like it spin the vfo.

the people on 435 do as they wish and have fun and the repeater is active. sure as hell better hearing an active repeater then one thats only active during the 10 minute hihi om net once a week.
7  eHam Forums / Misc / RE: Game over for Icom/Yaesu HF Sales on the High end? on: November 02, 2012, 07:52:41 PM
Something that puzzles me is 'Where do all those old radios go?' There aren't that many new hams, so do people end up with several transceivers, do they part them out, do they rot in barns and garages, or do they go to landfill?

they sit on someones shelf rotting until someone is dumb enough to buy it for 100 times more then its worth.
8  eHam Forums / Misc / RE: Can the Japanese withstand the Chinese Radio onslaught? on: August 06, 2012, 01:32:06 PM
Maybe the Japanese will outsource the construction of their designs to the Chinese?

I expect when it comes to the higher end stuff that the cost of components may have an impact on cost.

some have already moved some manufacturing to china.. ironic as soon as that happened.. all the cheep knock off rigs started pouring out of china...

11  eHam Forums / Misc / RE: Amateur Radio Repeater 147.435MHz in Los Angeles say the funniest things. on: July 03, 2012, 02:44:37 PM
I don`t know what it is about Southern CA,but their repeaters take it to a different level. The control op,K6GE is just as guilty. There`s no reason that machine should be on the air with that stuff going on. Just a bunch of immature potheads getting high and jamming themselves.

GE hasnt owned 435 in a year and a half. RRI bought it from him
12  eHam Forums / Misc / RE: Why doesn't someone make a 6m/2m/70cm Radio no HF on: June 15, 2012, 06:05:13 PM
QRP 6 as a bonus to 2m, 440 with the Icom t90a. Got one if you want it.

if the price is $0 with free shipping you can send it right to me!
