Because on this particular radio I couldn't find anyone that had the information. If I knew someone that was using this radio, or knew anything about the mod for it, I would have asked them.

That's scary!
It would be bad enough to screw up a radio on your own, but using the manufacturer's directions and have things go bad would be even worse.

I did a google search, and apparently the 7200 can be modified for MARS, but what I found describes not only removing diodes, but adding diodes.
So I've got to ask, is this radio something that's fairly straightforward to modify, like my 706mk2g was, or is it something that I should seriously consider having ICOM or someone else do it?
Thanks, Robert Patty NNN0AJM

eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / Ladder line and separating it from tower, gutters, etc

I'm about to put up an NVIS antenna that is fed with 450 ohm ladder line, but I'm at a loss about how to keep the ladder line away from my tower, where the center support will be, the roof, the gutters and anything else that pops up during the install.
If anyone has any ideas let me know. I know that there's got to be a way to do it.

That one worked, but apparently I'd have to buy a program that costs $29.99 to save the file.
Any ideas for a free program?
Yes... if you have a rig connected to your computer, use any MP3 recorder, and record the sidetones... Failing that, if it is a small job send me the text and I can generate them for you... 73's, Dave Dave, I just tried that with 3 different MP3 recorders and I can't find a way when using them to allow my radio to be the source. It's connected on COM3 and works fine with things like HRD and Winmor. Any particular MP3 recorder that you can recommend?

I'm looking for some software that will allow me to type something and save it as an MP3 file.
Anyone have any suggestions? I've done a google search and come up with nothing that was quite what I was looking for.

I've got an oddball problem. I have an Icom 706mk2g in my Jeep and one day when I turned it on I tuned across the bands and couldn't hear anything at all. I assumed that I had an antenna problem and a week or so later I looked it over and all was well with the antenna. Then yesterday I turned it on to see once again if I could figure out the problem and discovered that it's apparently transmitting all of the time!
I removed the microphone, hoping that it was something simple like a bad mike, but that didn't cure it.
I'm not positive that it's transmitting all of the time, but the display shows a full bar on Power Out.
Has anyone ever seen a radio, or better yet, this specific radio do this?!
Any ideas for a cure?
Thanks, Robert

Thanks for the quick response. I was aware that the 706mk2g was no longer in production though. I like the radio overall, but I've never had my hands on a 7000. Kind of like a native on a primitive island; if he's never used a TV he can't really miss it. I'm just a bit OCD and have this thing about keeping all of my radios the same. Might explain why I own so many Yaesu FT-8800s!

I did a search and couldn't find anything on this specifically, but I have a 706mk2g in my Jeep and I'm about to put a radio in my new Expedition. I'd like to keep the radios the same, so I can either pick up a used 706mk2g for the Expedition or sell the one that I have and buy a couple of 7000s, one for each vehicle.
So the question is, what is the difference between these 2 radios? I'm assuming that the 7000 has some stuff the 706mk2g doesn't, or Icom wouldn't have made the switch, but if someone could give me a brief, or not so brief run down on the differences I'd greatly appreciate it.
One last thing, these are the only radios that I'm interested in, so while some may feel that there are better choices out there, please don't throw them into the mix.
Thanks, Robert

Thanks for the information, but I'm really hoping that I can use my 760. I like it and I'm used to it, plus I'd hate to have to buy another one just for APRS use.

I have an Alinco DR-135T with a T2-135 installed. What I don't have is a means to receive a signal. I have a Garmin Nuvi 760 GPS in my Jeep.
Is there a way to get this GPS to talk to the T2-135? And if so, where can I buy the cable or if I need to make it myself, does anyone have a diagram to show me what wires to hook up to which pins?

WOW!!! Where did you find all of that?! It's a literal gold mine.
Oddly enough after I shut it off and powered it up the next day it worked fine, but I know enough about electronics, or anything for that matter, to know that if a problem shows up once and then disappears that it's not fixed and will return again eventually.
Now I have a ton of information to download. Call me an information hoarder, but when I find a source like that I download everything just in case someone might need it later.
