1  eHam Forums / Misc / RE: QSL cards or labels on: April 03, 2013, 01:18:56 PM
Well I suppose that is the question.  If anyone has tried it, is the label or just printing the cards method worth it or much faster.
2  eHam Forums / Misc / QSL cards or labels on: April 03, 2013, 11:15:09 AM
Fellow Hams,

I'm about ready to redesign my QSL cards and I'm thinking about my options.  I'm looking to have a nice full color card designed and I'm thinking about the QSL information on the back.  I'm wondering about having the back of the card printed like a normal QSL card with the fill-in boxes or leaving it blank and attaching a sticker with the information printed.  Currently I use the N3FJP software for most of my logging.  I'm wondering if it's a great advantage to print off labels with all the QSO information on it and just sticking it to the card or just fill in the boxes.

Thanks in advance.

3  eHam Forums / DXing / With DX stations ... what does "Up" mean. on: November 26, 2012, 05:15:56 PM
I see this often when people are talking about DX stations or DXpeditions.  They will say something like 7.160 up 5.  I don't feel as if I'm exactly clear how this works.  Could I get a little explanation? Does it mean that the DX'er is listening on 7.160 and responding on 7.165? I know this is probably the stupid question of the day, but I need to know.

Thank in advance.

I'm trying to figure out the exchange on this weekends Phone November Sweepstakes.  What is the check number?

Thank you everyone.  With your encouragement I'm gonna start sending out my postcards as QSL cards.  For now all the information is hand written and personal.  Plus I took the picture on the front so I like the card.  We'll see how it goes.

8  eHam Forums / DXing / Software to manage QSL Cards on: November 14, 2012, 08:47:55 AM
So I'm starting to send out some QSL cards for the first time and with all the different ways to QSL I can see where it quickly can get a little confusing. Is there some software out there that will help you to manage the cards?  I'm not so much interested in printing labels as I am keeping track of what contacts I've sent direct, bureau, LoTW or whatever.  I suppose I can make a spreadsheet to help with this. But I'm not interested in a shoebox or paper. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Question:

Anyone every used a regular post card for a QSL card?  I have a box, that I made a couple years ago, that are just sitting around.  Plus I plan on testing for my Extra at the beginning of the year and I'll be applying for a new call sign at that time.  So it seems like a plan to use these post cards until then.  Any reason why not?

I need a little help with portable and mobile operations.  1st question if you are running a rig while driving, are you still mobile if you park the car?

Also I hear operators often sign with their call sign followed by /portable 8 or /portable 6.  I am assuming the numbers reflect the zone they are transmitting from.  Would this be accurate and is it required?

Thanks in advance.

11  eHam Forums / Mobile Ham / RE: Mounting Hamstick on 2011 Silverado on: October 05, 2012, 08:25:50 PM
Thanks for the information guys.  That stake pocket mount looks like it would work perfect, yet a little pricey.  My truck is a lease so can't or won't ... it's just not an option for this truck.  Next truck won't be a lease, so I'll have more options then.

13  eHam Forums / Mobile Ham / Mounting Hamstick on 2011 Silverado on: October 04, 2012, 10:08:47 AM
Here is my dilemma.  I have a 2011 Silverado, with a bed cover and I can't drill any holes.  I'm going on a trip in a few months and would like to have some HF abilities.  I'm going to use a Hamstick type antenna.  From what I can figure the best place to mount this is on the back bumper or between cab and bed.  Between the cab and bed would be preferred.  Any thoughts on these mounting possibilities?

For those not familiar on Monday a gentleman is jumping from a balloon 23 miles above Roswell, NM. This will be a record breaking event.  I was just wondering if anyone had any frequencies for this event.  I imagine most will be local freqs but I figured at 23 miles up you might be able to hear something.

Thank you everyone, some great information here.  I certainly appreciate these forums, they really help a new ham like men especially when you don't have an Elmer in the area.  I have a Signalink and a Cat cable on the way.  That should be a good start to get me going digitally.  And yes I will set up my macros accordingly and will try not to fall into the bulletins regarding every health problem I may or may not have.   Grin
