eHam Forums / SWL (Shortwave Listening) / Looking to upgrade from Grundig G6

For the past year or so, I've been SWL'ing with a refurbished Grundig G6 (the Buzz Aldrin one). It's a nice radio, but I'm thinking of upgrading to something better. Specifically, one with a somewhat better build quality & that isn't so prone to front end overload. Any recommendations? Not looking to spend a ton of money, either. >$100 if possible.

Pulled out the old G5RV that my buddy gave me. It's in three pieces at the moment. One is the feedline & the other two are the antenna wire. One wire section is 38" and the other is 55". I stretched out the longer piece long the ground in my back yard & it's approximately 49' to 50' from the corner of my house to the garden where I want to attach it. This antenna, if shortened or folded back on itself, will be approx. 51'. It may fit, but only just. (I realize the distance will change once it's elevated.) So, I did some browsing online to see what my other alternatives are. Found two wire antennas that would work; the Carolina Windom 40 Compact ( http://www.radioworks.com/ccw40compact.htm) which is 34' & $150 or the Hy Power 2B2040L ( http://www.rffun.com/catalog/hamwire/1285.html) which is 44' & $70. Or I could go with KQ6Q's idea of the resonant 40m dipole. Any opinions on what I should do?

I got my General back in Nov. & have been itching to get on HF ever since. Used most of my Xmas money on a used rig, so now I'm all set to go. Except, that I need to figure out an antenna solution.
My neighborhood is HOA restricted. However, the HOA is very lax (almost non-existent). In fact, I'm currently breaking the restriction with my VHF/UHF dipole (with the HOA President's blessing, I might add). I'm fairly sure I can get away with an outdoor antenna provided it isn't too big.
Here's the problems: my lot is very tiny! About .14 of an acre, to be precise. To make matter worse, most of it is a side yard, which is visible to the street on two sides. My back yard isn't very wide, but is long. One of my Elmer's gave me an old G5RV which might work sloping down from one side of the house to the corner of the lot. However, even folded back upon itself, I'm not sure they'll be enough space.
And to top it off, my attic is practically unworkable. It's not very big, there's duct work & support beams running everywhere (and a heat pump), and there's no place to walk.
So, what can I do here? I'm open to any suggestions!
EDIT: Forgot to add something important! I've only got a budget of $150 to play with.
