MacBook Pro Retina, Signalink USB, fldigi, and flrig all work well together.
2  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Is packet phase coherent? on: November 28, 2012, 02:20:33 PM
AC7ZN,

Thanks, that's what I was looking for. I'm doing some simulation in GNU Octave and wasn't sure if i should write the code to be phase coherent or not on the modulation.

The 2010 ARRL Handbook (the one I have) is not very detailed in FSK modulation and such. I find it completely glosses over a lot of it, though it does nice jobs in other areas of radio.
3  eHam Forums / Elmers / Is packet phase coherent? on: November 26, 2012, 09:39:59 PM
I've been digging around for days about packet radio, AX.25, and Bell 202 and I've found there is surprisingly very little information on the physical layer of packet radio. It took two days to stumble upon the fact that it uses NRZI encoding. I can not find concrete fact either way if packet is phase coherent or not. So, I beg the question of the horde... is the FSK modulation used in packet radio phase coherent?

I use a Comet SBB-5NMO with a FT-7900R in my truck with good effect.

Is this like a Rick Roll?
6  eHam Forums / Computers And Software / RE: PIC Programmer on: October 02, 2012, 11:50:02 AM
I know the PICkit 3 had some major issues early on, but I don't know if they resolved them. They were bad enough that people ditched them and went back to the PICkit 2.

I'm not sure if the bad spelling is a joke or if he's really that stupid...

Did not think of that... Thanks for the tip!
9  eHam Forums / Misc / FT-450 Digital Voice Recorder on: September 29, 2012, 08:35:51 PM
I've had my FT-450D for about a year now and still love it. One thing I don't understand though is the Digital Voice Recorder. The Voice Memories make total sense (record a repetitive transmission and transmit at the push of a button)... but the Digital Voice Recorder doesn't transmit, it just plays over your speaker. Anyone find a purpose for this?

PICkit 2. Works perfect. Don't bother with the knock-offs.

I love my FT-450D. Tons of features that I'm still discovering.
12  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / Buddipole cocoaNEC Model on: September 15, 2012, 12:44:40 PM
After reading Josh Carter's blog on modeling the Buddipole in cocoaNEC, I took it upon myself to modify his initial source as an exercise in learning the cocoaNEC NC language. Below is a link to my NC source code for a Buddipole configured as a dipole, customizable with arms, coils, standard, and long whips. Enjoy.

13  eHam Forums / Misc / RE: Statesi Non-QSLers on: September 13, 2012, 07:38:34 PM
On a more positive note, the last three people I had QSOs with sent me QSL cards with no prompting from myself. Very nice! I sent mine out immediately upon receipt.
14  eHam Forums / Misc / RE: Statesi Non-QSLers on: September 13, 2012, 09:31:24 AM
I've seen the non QSLers on QRZ.com as well... I asked a couple of them about it, since I wanted their card, and they said it was a mis-type or they didn't realize that it was saying that. I'm in the habit now of just emailing them if I really want their card to confirm what QRZ is saying.

I think the SASE practice is complete bulls&*t to begin with... but I have run into the same exact situation as you. They're cheap people who demand you send them a SASE and then they don't even have the courtesy to return it. That part of the hobby is a major negative.

(I'm not talking about DX stations with SASE, that I understand)
