1  eHam Forums / Misc / RE: Radio Shack Shares at $2. The Slide Continues on: October 07, 2012, 02:08:23 PM
From my ongoing experience with rat shack, this is in no way surprising.

No more parts worthy of mention and absolutely clueless (and often obnoxious) sales droids / policies almost exclusively.

Only one rat shack I will still patronize when desperate (and not uncommonly disappointed with out of stock).

They dumped (on) their customer base (which, granted, seems to be decreasing with the dumbing down of the youth).

Disappointing to see where they are ending up from where they once were.

No take PayPal, no deal.

Only protection I have...
3  eHam Forums / QRP / RE: Ten-Tec R4030 goes berserk on 30 meters on: May 23, 2012, 07:03:47 PM
Basically the same problem with my 4020.

Bad case of RF feedback using a wall wart (also inside long wire through a MFJ-949D with counterpoise).  Not an issue with batteries nor external 12VDC.

Not positive this is the same thing, but Hendricks kits puts one out by the same name:

5  eHam Forums / Digital / RE: PSK31 - I'm easily heard, but can't make contacts! on: March 14, 2012, 07:24:44 PM
I'm just getting into the digital modes and trying to get active again.  Years ago I was doing pactor, packet and rtty.

This thread was certainly helpful to me too.  So *MANY* digital modes to try to figure out :-).  Using fldigi and have some ideas now.

Hams helping hams, just like it was when I got started!

Tnx es 73 All, WV9K.

Looking for opinions of schematic drawing and/or PCB layout software.

7  eHam Forums / Digital / RE: Cuban Stations on PSK31 But Not JT-65 - Why? on: February 25, 2012, 06:43:05 PM
Internet connectivity in Cuba is heavily censored, slow, and expensive. Without reliable Internet, the average ham can't sync their PC clock with ntp. And if you can't do that, you can't decode, or send decode-able JT65 signals.

True, unless one is heavily connected to the powers that be and I rather doubt many of those are into ham radio.

Found a SW broadcast out of Cuba some months ago where they were building ham gear out of junked TVs.  Might explain some things.
