Bonding those rods and the electrical mains panel rod together does not equalize the area about the home relative to preempting a stroke sorry.
Regardless of the logic behind tying the grounding systems together (or not) , it is in the current code, and section 250.94 demands that the electrician install a inter-system bonding termination [IBT] to connect the communications ground to the electrical ground. 73 Martin Flynn W2RWJ

I purchased an ICOM SP-3 Speaker from Tom, KC8UOM. Despite the best efforts of the USPS, it arrived unscathed.
He charged me $10.00 for shipping, the actual on the box was $16.35. Set a price and kept to it.
Thanks Tom!

I know of companies who are buying new machines that are STILL getting Win XP professional installed on them. This is true - it assumes that that have a Volume license available to them with downgrade rights (Vista and Windows 7 came with this option) Sale of new machines with OEM versions of XP ended quite a while back. The only reason we are running windows at all is the clubs selected applications require it. Martin

As an IT industry person, I'm not migrating any of my XP computers away from that operating system. Yes, the end is near for XP, but the software works quite well and is a lot lighter on the hardware than Win 7. John, We are running under W7 downgrade licenses at the moment (MS volume licensing). The "problem" is that the lack of patches after the end of official support. Even with Sophos and a decent firewall, the risk of a zero day attack is too high for a network with so many users (41 active in AD with logins) With only volunteer IT support, I need to make this as stable as possible. 73 Martin Flynn W2RWJ

Have you checked the specs for the OEM cards now in the computers. Many of the Win 7 capable computers have video cards/chipsets the support dual monitors already. One monitor per output connection. That is the "VGA" connection and the HDMI or the other HD video out can drive separate monitors. I tried using an HP 481408-004 (displayport to VGA) adapter, would not work. I guess I can't expect too much from a pile of "free" computers. 73 Martin Flynn W2RWJ

With the end of support for Windows XP on the horizon, I started building replacements for the hodge-podge of XP computers at the N2MO station.
The "new" operating position computers are HP DC7900 CMT (Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0GHz, 4GB RAM, 80GB HD). OS is volume licensed Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.
Monitors are HP2208W and HP 1506L
Here's the question: Anyone have recommendation on cheap (less then $40.00 each) video cards that will support the above dual monitors configuration? Cost is a major factor in this decision

I'm fortunate that the club I belong to has it's own building at the InfoAge Museum in Wall Township, NJ. Along with use of the building comes the responsibility for maintenance, heat, internet, phone, and soon, electricity. We also mow the lawn on the 2.2 acre site, and provide caretaker services for an adjoining building. It's a huge amount of work, - however, many of our members can't have a station at home (HOA or XYL issues), so the N2MO station works well for them. As to your question, it's likely combination of perceived liability and other programs contending for space in the building. 73 Martin Flynn http://www.n2mo.org

No, it's a commercial site. There is no reason why they don't include requesting members other than they don't bother to do so. Sorry to hear that. Hopefully there is a nearby club that's more to your liking. Martin PS - We are moving a machine to a public safety site and this is a snag we are running into. (access limited to a small group by necessity). I was wondering if that's what you were up against.

I I have been asking for 2 years to go see the a club's repeater installation. Is the repeater on a secure site (public safety site) or commercial broadcast tower? Might be a reason behind this. Ask the trustee directly. Martin

Now, I will grant you that a 34 meter antenna is a big bigger than the average ham might have in their backyard, but there are people who have big antennas (Jamesburg dish, Bochum, etc.) and there are a LOT of 6-20 meter dishes around which could easily be pressed into service for, say, kilobits/second. 18.2 meter. Being repaired by and operated by, of all things, a bunch of amateur radio operators. Who would have thought.... http://infoage.org/exhibits/ocean-monmouth-amateur-radio-club/space-sentry-tlm-18

Now, instead of being a standby method, ham radio has got to fulfill certain goals and be rigidified and set into place with set training and methods. It has stopped being a standby for "when all else fails" and now is being depended on for certain uses--but still as a volunteer communications method.
Just as a personal observation: Some hospitals have chosen not to utilize Amateur Radio in their EP model, instead hardening their public safety communications equipment and other infrastructure. Both options meet the requirement of the AHJ. 73 Martin Flynn W2RWJ
