I used to think the quality of the members on this one was far above that of the other.  It is not.

BUT, it only has 300 miles on it.

It has been a difficult struggle to fit four 160m rhombics on the 3.3 acres And the rotor box for the 3-30 LP got jammed up by the 70+ wind gust yesterday.

The simple answer to your concerns is I'm looking for something to put in the Travel trailer/under the canopy in the pits during race weekends/or on the picnic table for field day and to use for the weather nets while the primary is safely disconnected from the outside world.

DX-SR8T or IC-718?
5  eHam Forums / VHF / UHF / RE: Another new part 90 narrowband question... on: February 18, 2013, 05:02:15 PM
Deviation?
Splinter channels?
Occupied bandwidth?

It was not that long ago that 25 kHz FM was Narrow band. Does that make 12.5 kHz FM Ultra Narrow?  What will 6.25 kHz FM be called Super Narrow?

Just how narrow can FM go and still possess decent audio quality?

+/- 5kHz deviation FM (what has been called NBFM since the 60s) is 16kHz wide, not 25kHz.

I was referring to the channel spacing and you know it as verified by this remark:

Analog FM at 6.25kHz spacing will not work;

Fin size depends on a lot of things, but typically, the fin span is less than twice the airframe diameter. Chord varies widely. Fins are typically less than 0.125in thick. Common fin materials range from plywood, to G-10 fiberglass, to carbon fiber sheets. On rockets expected to reach higher speeds, it's common to wrap the tail section of the rocket, including the fins, with fiberglass or carbon fiber cloth. While it isn't common, it is possible to use balsa for HPR fins. It just needs to be reinforced with other materials. I built fins for one rocket by sandwiching layers of balsa, paper, and sheet styrene.

Could you not lay the wires for the dipole on the fin core before laying the fiberglass?  Or a quarter wave wire on the fin and use the metal rocket body for the ground plane?

How big are the fins and what are they made of?

It is made in UAE and the dealers show POR.  Hold on to your wallet.

How did a question abut stopping rust turn into a dissertation about two parts of an antenna?  I guess I missed something.

Yes you did miss it.................... its called a Pro Rack

Were you born an ass or did you have to work long and hard to get that way?

He asked about a way to stop the rust on his pro rack.  And the best you can come up with is "Not to be mean, but not worth my time to mount on a vehicle. " Or your opener,  "Where do you start on this one ? ?"  And then "Well there are 2 parts to the antenna so you have the antenna its self".

WTF does any of that have to do with rust?  How is bonding body panels going to prevent his pro rack from rusting?

Condescending, pompous and totally non-responsive.

Why can you not paint or coat the bare metal to protect it from the elements?

VD is a good one.

The Wouxun is a more ruggedly built unit.  With that goes the additional size and weight.  The operating software seems to be better refined.  Still for what I use them for not triple the price more worth.

FT-857, FC-40, and a 12 foot whip.  40m is ok.  80m can be a problem.  I need to engineer a way to insert a section of coil material in a MS116 military antenna section.

K9AIM,

The flaw in your argument is the bottom 25 KHz are not CW only.  They are also RTTY and Data.  Since the Extra written test knowledge of those modes I'm covered.  BUT if you want an additional test for the privilege operating on an antiquated, slow, error prone mode of operation that most other services have allowed to pass into the annals of radio history you are welcome to.  Don't force your wave of nostalgia on everyone else particularly those who have welcomed and embraced the technological advancements of the modern era.

I have both.  If I was going to buy another it would be the UV5.  It is smaller and cheaper.  Performance wise they are both pretty close.
