Thanks to everyone for the help with the Computers Speed. Turning it off and on all day was giving it fits. I'm just closing the lid when not in use and off at bed time. BUT. As they say "there's always a but". I can't watch any kind of videos. They are in technical terms herky jerky and skipping moments of video and sound. Last night I put in the DVD Patton and the Windows Media Player did the same thing. I couldn't figure out why the player was having the same problem as a downloaded video. I put George C. Scott back in except I switched to Dells Power DVD player and it worked fine. So my question is how do I tune up the Windows Media Player so I can watch you guys put together a 2m/440 antenna in less than ten minutes on You Tube? All your help is very much appreciated.

Hello everyone
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I understand that having an older computer with just a 20GB hard drive things will just poke along at their own pace, like me. More info. I do turn the computer off when not being used, but I use it daily, many times a day to surf the web. I do have Firefox from Mozilla. The sites I have ready to go on the Firefox menu bar are Facebook, eBay, Yahoo mail, Yahoo sports, You Tube, Wikipedia and Yahoo entertainment.
The speed change is not exclusive to one site. When it runs slow everything is slow. Above the start button on the screen the info goes by in a flash when it is running good, if it's having the slows you can almost read the info word for word.
The one thing I will try is leaving it on during the day and turning it off just at bed time instead of off and on all day.
I still like to know how it can change from one day to the next.
Thanks everybody
Your friend Glenn KJ6WEV

To start I have a Dell Inspirion 1150 with a Celeron Processor. Upgraded to the max of 1GB ram. After the ram upgrade it ran great but slowly slowed to a crawl after some weeks. Tried Defrag and Disk Cleanup no help. Turned it off one night frustrated at it's pace but the next morning when I turned it on it was running as fast as when it was first upgraded.
I know things just don't fix themselves but it happened. Now it has slowed back down to a crawl. Something made the thing go fast and I would just like to know what. So I could do it again.

I think what I have to say should concern all Hams. My background is I'm 57 years-old, always interested in becoming an amateur radio operator I put together Heath kits as a kid. Recently I got the bug to get my license so I hit the net to see how much information I could get for free. Money is a problem time isn't. The first thing I did was dig up my old Realistic PRO-41 scanner. To find the frequencies for my area I used google and ended up at RadioReference.com. This site had all the information I was looking for, way better than the books and pamphlets I used when I first got the scanner years ago. Today I was checking out some of the other features they have like Audio Online. I could listen to police, fire, emergency service and airports from all over the country. I even discovered they have some amateur repeaters. I checked one out in So Cal on Mount Lukens. The site states "Warning-Adult Content & Language-Please wear headphones if you have children in the room." They weren't kidding, the language was Xrated, not R. What the heck is going on? Is this kind of stuff going on all over or is it just a Southern California thing? Glenn from Northern California.
