121  eHam Forums / DXing / DXing with a basic rig? on: November 05, 2012, 04:32:31 PM
Anyone else out there using a very basic rig for DXing?  I am currently using an Icom 706 original, have about $300 invested in it and that is with the narrow filter.  Wish I could afford something better, but it is kind of neat to work stuff on a very inexpensive rig.  So far I have worked 212 countries on it in the 19 months I have owned it.

What other basic rigs are being put into primary use in people's shacks?

Hi Trevor,

Hope you have a great trip to DFW.  I live about 3 hours away from there.  One contest station in that area that comes to mind is WX0B.  I am sure there are a few others.

Wasn't expecting too much DXing on CW once the sweepstakes started, but I was wrong.  Last night caught UP0L on 40 for a new band country, and then tonight worked RW0BG for zone 18!  That is a new zone on 40m as well.  Maybe they should have the CW sweepstakes every weekend with results like this-didn't play in the SS either.
