1  eHam Forums / Digital / RE: Ipad on: May 16, 2013, 02:06:41 PM
There are some for the rx side, but I cant find for any for transmitting.
It would be nice to use my Ipad mini rather than the laptop.

Can you lock out that #726? and put the freq in a different spot?
4  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / RE: current rating of automobile cigarette lighter plugs on: March 28, 2013, 12:35:48 PM
I tried to use one of those radio shack 2.5 amp power supplies on my hr 2510 and it would pop the breaker after a few seconds and the lights would dim on the radio, but with a 1F cap the radio runs perfect,, now this is on ssb only with just the alc compression that's in the radio that I speeded up a bit..  With the tests I ran it seems that you can "stretch" a power supply to 3to1 on an untouched ssb radio running normal limiting.

repeater split?
6  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / RE: pdc 600 swr meter on: December 08, 2012, 03:49:24 PM
That meter should work well for hf, 3mhz and up. so what's it doing wrong?

Will the HH charge with just the wall power supply pluged in to the radio
8  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: mobile TX on 2m and CB wipes out car radio (2001 Subaru Forester) on: December 05, 2012, 12:28:44 PM

The alternator whine on 2m is my primary target, heres what Ive done so far:

5 snap-on chokes around the alternator control wires.

I have 2 large square/cube shaped snap-on chokes, so i have one on each DC lead (from radio), wrapping the wires 2 or 3 times around them.

How about a capacitor of a few mf right on the alternator?   those snap on chokes wont do any thing at about 1000hz and that's where that ripple frequency is at.

You may need one on the stator winding wire too "if you have one"

9  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / RE: BLF278 for 2m amp on: December 01, 2012, 03:10:47 AM
The power supply is 52 volts no load and drops to 47 at about 8 amps, and i could help that with a few zener shunts.  It's just i've never played with high power fets and just wanted to know how unstable they would be with a little voltage flux.
10  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / BLF278 for 2m amp on: November 30, 2012, 03:34:20 AM
The question is how well regulated dose the power supply need to be to run a blf278 type amp on ssb 144 mhz.  I have a pair of transformers that when DC filtered are 26 volts each and will draw down to about 22 volts each at 20 amps. these are to be wired sires for 50 volts.

They're from regency 22 amp rack mount supplies that the regulators got really smoked by lightning.
11  eHam Forums / Repeaters / RE: Source for shielded audio cable for repeater controller? on: November 19, 2012, 02:26:52 PM
use a computer monitor cable,,It can free and has usually 5 mini coaxes in the loom!
12  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / RE: 10 meter mobile amp on: November 17, 2012, 10:48:13 PM
More time than not the difference between a cb garbage amp and many older ham set final amps is just a few ma of bias on the bases on the transistors.
13  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / RE: HTX-100 Need Help on: November 17, 2012, 05:39:17 PM
Changing the resistor on the fed back worked for me on several radios to stop that problem,
So maybe try the resistor rather than the cap?
14  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Twinkies on: November 17, 2012, 09:46:15 AM
At UNH they use twinkies to block neutron radiation, so they're gonna take a hit on that program.
15  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / RE: HTX-100 Need Help on: November 16, 2012, 12:59:17 PM
 Change R 161  330 ohm  to about 80 ohms,

It's on the driver transistor right near the final.

Also dropping the drivers bias a couple of ma to the bottom range of spec helps stop the oscillation.
