eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / RE: Inv V fan dipole interaction at max end seperation?

I tried to add 17M to my Alpha-Delta DX-EE (40, 20, 15 & 10M) parallel dipole and could never get 17M to coexist with the other three elements. Adding the 17M element threw the entire array out of whack. The antenna slopes a bit in an inverted "V" but not as steep an angle as yours (closer to 120 degrees than 95). I ended up building a second parallel dipole for 30-17-12M with its own feed, and now both parallel (fan) dipoles are happily matched.
I deducted (with no technical certainy or documentation) that the single feed point of the DX-EE just did not like mixing with a 17M element, no matter how I tried adjusting the lengths.
Good luck with the project.

eHam Forums / Station Building / RE: Liquid electrical tape - worth a try ?

My experience with the Liquid Electrical Tape has led me to limit my use of it to rather low voltage, non-critical applications. The brand I used (name escapes me) turned out to brush on very thinly, even after much stirring. Eventually, I got in the habit of putting on a light coat and letting it fully dry before adding 2 or 3 more coats. After two coats, I could still see through the color (I've tried black, white and red) to the actual metal in the connection. I'm sure the can must have a voltage rating on it, but I wouldn't take the chance.
I pretty much only use it on connections in which I cannot get a good tape wrap.

Yep. I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
Among other rigs, I've owned a TS-850S/AT, TS-950, IC706MKIIg, and the FT1000MP (the MP since 1999). I recently sold my FT1000MP to help finance a new amp. It is the only radio that I've parted company with that I wish I had kept. It's not "over your head" for a new comer. Just learn the basics. The manual is good and I learned something new about the radio every time I read it. And, there is a reason why some contest stations have two or three of these rigs.
At first you will use, Band, Mode, AF Gain and RF gain. Then you'll learn the benefits of a second VFO, crystal filters, scanning, attenuators, etc. It will be a hard radio to "grow out of".

Don't blame me, Alan. This morning the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that chromium is just as unsafe as lead and that it must be removed from all automotive parts by April 1, 2014. The Los Angeles County Sherriff's Department immediately filed for a waiver for their heavily-chromed motorcycles and the St. Louis Fire Department's legal department has sent a communication to the Court threatening to strike should they be required to remove their big chrome bells, their spotlights and their iconic chromed Federal Signal rotating sirens.
Finally, I just got a call from a friend with the Gateway City Classic Car Club indicating that his organization voted to stop having classic car shows in the interest of safety and begin knitting demonstrations instead. The club narrowly defeated a motion that would have allowed chrome knitting needles, claiming they were intent on "doing their part" for our country, whatever it took.
Hey, we NEED to be guided by those much wiser than ourselves.

Thanks George. I will check my Junk mail folder for those specific dates. New computer and operating system could be the culprit.

Another concern would be potential liability. We live in a law suit environment today. If the amateur community near you comes to "expect" you to make weather warning announcements (because you always have done so) and one time you fail to do so, I would assume you could end up on the "uncomfortable" end of a litigation. Just a thought.

I have tagged a number of posts for "Notify" in the last month or so and have received no notification of subsequent posts. I used to get many notifications. It has me wondering if there is a bug in the "Notify" feature. Or, perhaps, I'm just interested in gathering more information on all the wrong stuff. Terry, WØFM
