31  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: DX cop bad behavior on: February 23, 2013, 08:44:31 PM
My solution is to do away with split operation completely.  The DX station is taking up 3 to 5 khz of band and the lids answering are taking up 3 to 5 on either side with thier mistuned amps and it is all just a mess.

I am sure that would make you and your net buddies very happy.  Spoken like a true net nutter.

Damned shame the DX has to interfer with your OMISS, etc. nets, huh Huh

I dont think you will get much support for that one here.............

Are you sure you are posting in the correct forum?

(Damn..... I think I just replied to a TROLL Roll Eyes )

I think you did too Gene.  Anyone even with only a superficial understanding of DXing knows about the need for DX split operation.   Roll Eyes

33  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: How Many Have Earned Honor Roll? #1 Honor Roll? on: January 28, 2013, 05:04:00 PM
At present, "top of the Mixed Honor Roll" requires Mixed DXCC credit for all 340 non-deleted DXCC entities.

Note that only 5 ops are at the top of the CW Honor Roll, and that no one is at the top of the RTTY/Digital Honor Roll.

Wow Dave,  that surprises me.   I am at 302 CW, may be I can make the top of the CW Honor Roll and be number six.   (One can always dream)  Grin

I think WA8UEG is probably right.  There will be a difference when reading constant carrier
and SSB if the meter isnt designed to show peak ssb.    The first thing I would do is disconnect the antenna feedline and connect a dummy load to the output of the SWR meter and see if it
behaves the same.  Then you are eliminating the antenna feedline and antenna.  Let us know what happens.

I agree.  I can see working them twice to make sure you made it but thats it.
They could reply contest style with worked B4 if this is the third time.  (I think this would be possible to track with computer logging)

39  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: Taking (friendly) Bets. Which (last) entity will put me on the Honor Roll? on: December 10, 2012, 12:41:04 PM

Rich,

How about sending Monk Apollo a letter stating that you normally wouldn't ask
because you know he is very busy and has limited time for ham radio but you are only one away from making the honor roll and if possible would like to make a schedule for a contact.  And you would love to have him be the very last contact for the award.

Its worth a try !

My bet is on VK0/H Heard Island.  I don't see any of the others on the horizon
and there is a planned Heard Island DXpedition in Jan 2014.

I am currently using HamCap which is a freeware interface program to
VOACAP.

Hi,

I too use Hamcap, it seems to be pretty accurate, and the P2P graphs are a help as well.  I have a review with screen shots and an interesting overlay of PSK reporter's map over HamCap's map...  They match very well...  Review at:

Excellent review Dave !

42  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: But....... I dont WANT to wait another YEAR for an ATNO!! on: December 06, 2012, 09:54:22 PM
I've worked a lot of new ones this year but, I have certainly. Slowed down at 283.  There are a few lurkers out there and 2 new ones on the horizon soon.

Does anyone else get a little sad after the new one rush goes away?
I feel kinda bad for my buddies that have them all.
I'm enjoying the chase for now.
Frank KG6N

I dont think I will live long enough to work them all and lose the new one rush,
I am 65 now, and I'm at 305, it has taken many years to get here.
When I go, I want to go peacefully in my sleep dreaming of working an ATNO.  Grin Grin

I am currently using HamCap which is a freeware interface program to
VOACAP.  It will show point to point and overall area coverage
predictions.  I am curious what others are using and I know we are only
"predicting" but how reliable does your program seem to be.
I'm thinking about trying out some other programs.
