eHam Forums / Digital / TS430S Digital question.

I have connected the Signalink USB thru my TS430S and it is working pretty well.(Mic connector) My question is: I have the rig mic control about midpoint and the Signalink unit TX output about mid control. What effect does one have on the other, as I can adjust output with either of these? Should I run the mic output of rig all the way up and lower output with the Signalink unit, or try to find a happy medium point as I have now? Thanks for helping this newbie on digital out! 73 Pete Getting IMD reports from -19 to -26 depending how I happen to set controls I think??

I hope to learn enough to use digital on my TS430 S. I plan on using SignaLink interface and Digipan program. Question is: can I use the accesory plug on rear, which is an 8 pin DIN and has an "audio out" pin among the others? Appreciate your help getting started into this mode! 73~Pete N4KXG Florida

Hello, hope you are working out well with your digital mode. I am new to digital and will be trying to rig my TS430S. I believe the 8 pin DIN socket on the back has an audio out pin and hope to connect here rather than the mike input on front which is an 8 pin plug in. What do you think? Thanks 73~pete

Tnx Steven, I assume the 10 turns of coax applies to RG8 also? That will go from my tiuner in shack to the MFJ912 coax to bal. feed device, with the balun just at the input of the MFJ unit, then the 450 ohm ladder line from the unit to the antenna. Appreciate your input. Pete N4KXG

Yes, I want to keep rf out of the shack. currently rig is grounded. I had rf with the 300 ohm direct to my antenna tuner which does have a 4-1 balun.(Did load well on 40,30,20 15 with the 300 ohm) By using coax to outside and then converting to 450 ohm ladder line with the MFJ 912 unit I expect to not have a lot of rf in the shack. And the RF choke at the MFJ unit should help out. As WB2WIK advises using 10 turns of the coax on 5" diam. form for 40 meters. Don't know what effect that will have on other bands though. Usually just working 40 and 30, sometimes 17. I do have RG8 coax available for the feed and choke. Thanks, Pete

I have a 40 Mtr triangular loop antenna up currently fed with coax. I plan to change the feed to: a short length of RG8 from the antenna tuner, ( in the shack), outside to the MFJ912 (coax to balanced line device). Then use 450 ohm ladder line to the loop. My question is: I was told to wind 5 turns of the RG8 on a 6" form and install it prior to enetring the MFJ912 to act as a choke. Does this sound like it will benefit the setup? The reason for the change is that the loop does not load on other bands as it did when I used just 300 ohm feedline, though there was some RF in the shack from that. Thanks Pete N4KXG
