eHam Forums / Elmers / Yaesu FT-980 MD-1 Microphone Problem

I have been off the air on HF for approximately 20 years due to lack of equipment and antenna. I just recently acquired a used Yaesu FT-980 transceiver with an MD-1 microphone. The problem is that when I speak loudly into the mike, there is zlmost no power going out. The mike gain is all the way to the max. When I whistle into the mike, however, the power outpur jumps up to what it should be, as shown by the meter needles on my MFJ 904H antenna tuner, in addition to the meters on the FT-980. What am I doing wrong? Thank you for any help.

eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / Yaesu FT-101ZD Transceiver Mod to 11 meters

I recently acquired an old FT-101ZD, and found that, of the four 10 meter band segments, the three lower segments appear to have been converted to 11 meters. I would like to convert them back to 10 meters so that the segments match what is in the operating manual. Thank you for any help.

eHam Forums / Elmers / Indoor Random Wire Antennas

Hello,
I'd like to connect a temporary 20-mtr indoor random wire antenna to my new HF rig via an MFJ-904H antenna tuner until such time as I can put up an outdoor vertical antenna. Can I use regular 2-wire zip (lamp) cord and solder the two wires together at the end and use a spade lug to connect to the antenna tuner? I haven't been on HF since the 1980's and am out of practice doing antenna work. Thank you for any help.
