I have a couple of them and mine work find with my Icom 756 Pro III and the 746 Pro. I have the switches in series so I can connect 3 rigs and I have a Jetstream 220 rig all running through the switches no problem. I am using a Heil PR-40 for the mic not the original Icom mic but I have plugged in my hand mic that came with the rig to test with and it worked on the Icoms just fine (I did not try it on the Jetstream). There is a pamplet that comes with the switch that explaines how to set it up inside. It should be available on MFJ's website. If you dont have the paperwork on it and cant locate it on the web let me know and I will copy it and snail Mail it to you. I just purchased 2 of those (Replacing some RigBlaster Pros).
On one of them I had to go into the windows control panel and click on the sounds and click around until I found the output volume and turn it all the way up on the computer.
After I did that I had no problem with the adjustment of the audio on the SignaLink.
There is some jumpers inside the interface if you cant get enough audio out of the computer for your rig but I found after I turned the colume all the say up in control panel it works just fine.
Good Luck Delbert McCord KA8OCN

I have purchased a lot of stuff on eBay for Ham Radio and I can say I have only been burned once or twice.
Feedback is the second thing I check after what is being sold. If there is bad feedback I go read it, if the person has 1 bad comparted to 100 good then I dont have a problem.
I always look at like this, I only buy if I am getting a good enough deal to be able to put the cost of a repair into it and not get hurt. Its like anything else in life, you look at a risk and decide if its worth it.
No at Swap and Swindles I have been burned! Not at local ones I know most of the people there but Dayton I have been burned at. Now I only buy parts or stuff that that you can tell if its good on the spot. I do love going to Dayton and shoping at the new vendors inside. So I am not knocking Dayton just saying that there is always a risk and if a buyer is carefull there are some very nice deals on eBay and you dont have to drive house and get up in the middle of the night to go to a Swap and Shop.
My 2 cents worth, keep the change.

I am using Echolink mobile and it works great to allow me to use my 220 rig at home to keep in touch with my local friends when I do my 300 mile weekly business trip.
My problem is I dont like taking my eyes off the road to press the space bar. Has anyone found a way to go into transmit and back to receive using a switch on a mic?
Thank you for any help you can send my way.

I have one connected to my TV in the shack via the Video jack (RCA connector) I had to fiddle with the settings in the menu to make it fit the screen.
If your TV does not have a Video input feed it in a VCR Video input.
Hope this helps Delbert McCord KA8OCN

I am no expert but I have one of these.
First of all have you checked /adjusted for the swr between the Radio and the amp? There are some adjustments for each band on the back of the amp. Look in the manual for the instructions, if you dont have a manual you can download from Ameritrons website.
Second thing is are you using a Peak reading meter for power? SSB power will show much lower on a Average reading meter. If it does not say its a peak reading meter its a average reading meter.
There is my 2 cents worth I hope it helps.

Did you check out the review section of this web site?
I have 2 of them, I use one on a Alinco 220 rig and the other on a Alinco duel band rig. I only have one problem, I purchased both used on eBay and one of them does not stayed keyed if I just push the Push to Talk button, I have to use the Lock button. I have been to lazy to take it apart and on 220 simplex my friend and I have Long keydown as we try and correct all the worlds problems!
I have never received any bad audio reports.
Dont forget to look in the review section, I always check there when I am thinking of purchasing a item for my ever growing Ham Shack (Keeps growing like I do, hmm)

I am going to put up a small tower for a HF beam next spring. I would like input on HF Beams, I want to operate at lease 20, 15, 10 meters. I read about windload, problems with ice and many other things to the point that I am confused. Am I better to go with something without traps? is a mono band beam better? I want 20 meters for sure, I run a lot of psk31. I dont really need the best but what I am want is one that will give me good service and last a long time. Thanks for you time Delbert McCord KA8OCN Michigan

Boy I wish eham would have allowed a review of these amps, they could have placed the information that has been supplied on this thread and I would have not purchased one.
I purchased one to use with my Yaesu 817D on eBay. I seems to work but I am no expert with amps.
I have a Ameritron 811 for home but I wanted a solid state amp for my truck and Ameritrons are a little high to say the least
This is not the dark ages, information is not bad, There are mods in the download section that can make a rig operate out of band but they are not blocked (There are not that many people in MARS)
Now I have to worry about causing interference, or selling the amp (and it sounds like only a CB'er would want it and I will Throw it away before I sell it to a CB'er).
I LOVE eHams reviews, I always check out the reviews before I buy anything.

eHam Forums / Computers And Software / Web Based Log?

Is there a website that offers a log book so it can be accessed from different locations? I am trying to get back into the swing of things, but one thing I have never been very good at is keeping a log. Like this weekend I was at the cabin and did not think I would have any time to operate and I made a hand full of contacts but I wrote them down on a piece of paper but usually the paper gets lost before I get it into my paper log at home. What is the best logging software to use? Which one is easy? How about one thats easy and the data file can be moved from computer to computer EASLY? I dont want much . . . . . . Thanks for any help people can send my way Delbert McCord dmccord253@hotmail.com(Please dont add me to any spam list, I have plenty)

I dont like the hidden bidders either. I know that I had a very bad experence with another Amateur Radio supplier on ebay and I used to email bidders of the problems I had.
I have been looking at items quite often and I see something being bidded up as high as it can be purchased new from AES. I have sent a few of those bidders a note giving them a heads up.
All in all I have purchased lots of stuff on ebay and I have for the most part had great results.
One thing I like about eBay is on auction listings there is so much information and pictures and I really like AES (I purchased a 220 rig last month from them) but their web site has prices only, sometimes a link to a picture and a brief description but not the detailed info I find on a lot of auctions.
I have been burned more at Dayton than at eBay, I now go to eBay at least once a week and have not been to Dayton in years.

eHam Forums / Amplifiers / 80 meter Dipole & AL-811 Amplifier
|
on: February 08, 2006, 10:29:38 PM

I am new to the use of an Ameritron Amplifier AL-811. I seem to have a problem but I dont think its the amp but the station setup? My problem is when I key the Rig (Yaesu-897 connected through a Ameritron ARB-704 buffer) on 80 meters LSB and have no input into the mike I get a Plate current of 200 mills and about 50 watts out and the SWR goes Nuts (Off the scale and it had been tuned to under 1.3).
When I tuner up the amp around 3900 into the dummy load everything is fine it will idle with no mike input at around 25 mills just what the manual says should happen. I can speak into the mike and still everything is still fine.
I can put the amp into standby and the rig works fine with the antenna so I really dont know what to think?
The Dipole is alittle long for the phone portion of 80 meters (It is trimmed for psk operation and has been in the air for a while and I am sure it has stretched.
The tuner I am using is a Ameritron ATR-20.
What really makes me scratch my head is I have taken this amp up to my cabin and ran it with 2 G5RV's I have up in the air there and it has worked fine on 80 meters.
I dont know what is going on, I have an Idea but I am not sure and dont have a station monitor to verify, I think I am putting out some harmonics, and that would explain the SWR going up big time, but I dont know why I would be having harmonics and more importantly I dont know what to do to correct it.
Thanks for any help or experence people can send my way. 73's Delbert McCord KA8OCN
