I have a Icom 706 installed in my truck with the power run directly from the battery (#4 wire both positive and negative with both fused). When ever I turn off or on the truck, I my radio momentarily stops. It seems some where I have read about a way to overcome this, but can't find it anywhere.
How can you keep the radio on when turning off and on the truck?

Yes, is was my audio they said was distorted. They were having trouble hearing me because of the distortion. I am running an Icom 7600 through an Icom PW-1 amp. My 80 meter dipole is hung between two tress about 75 feet high.
I was not having distortion on 15, 20 and 40 meter through my SteppIR antenna.

Tonight I was told by a couple of people my signal was badly distorted on 80 meters. That has never happened before, in fact I usually get complements.
I did change antenna's from a 40/80 dipole to a 80 meter dipole. Since nothing else has changed, I assume it is related to the antenna some way. I have checked all the coax and it tests fine. My first assumption is I need to add a balun to coax coming from this antenna. I presume I would add it just before the coax enters the shack.
Any suggestions on how to trouble shoot this and get my signal clean again?
Thanks

I am putting up a 80 meter dipole antenna at about 75' between two trees. The trees are only 100' apart so I will need to bend the ends of the dipole.
1) How do you bend them in such a way as to be able to connect the joint to the support? 2) DO you need to trip off the excess wire to bring it into frequency, or can you just wrap it back on itself (I don't know if this really electrical shortens the antenna or not)?
Thanks

I need to run 85' of coax (213) thru conduit. There is already one electrical cord in the conduit. I seem to be getting stuck on every connection joint. Any ideas how to do it more effectively than I am at present?

eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / How to drop down ends of 80meter dipole

I am installing an 80 meter dipole between two tall trees. The trees are 100 feet apart. I understand I can drop the ends of the dipole down without much loss. How do you do that? I will be anchoring the dipole to the trees. How to you attach the anchor and keep the end free to drop down? A number of authors say you can do it, but I have seen no diagrams or photos of how they handle the anchor points.
Thanks for advice

I am thinking about getting my first D-Star radio. Not sure which Icom would be the best to get first. Would I be better with a handheld or mobile? Which would people recommend? Which would be easiest to program?
