Good points..!! Never thought about the insulators, The idea of attaching the antenna to the truck is excellent, I normally only work HF weekends early morning, so that will work, the radio shack is at the front of the house close to the driveway where the truck is normally parked.
In the meantime I'll start saving for the outpost tripod.
Thanks.

Hello Team: I use a regular and cheap camera tripod for mounting my outbacker perth plus. Questions: 1 - Does it matter the size of the tripod for mounting an Outbacker antenna.. 2 - What size need to be the "ground coupler" plates in my homemade tripod..?? 3 - The legs of the tripod (aluminum) need to be in direct contact with the ground or just the "plates" and then the "plates" attached to the tripod legs..?? Thank you very much Pictures of the tripod here: http://images22.fotki.com/v723/photos/1/174728/4737289/Tripod-vi.jpg?1176160000

eHam Forums / Elmers / Best location for a lightning surge protector...??

"...The antenna is mounted on the roof. Attach a large solid conductor wire to the base of the antenna and run it down in a direct line and using large radius bends to a ground rod.
1 - Can this ground rod be the same already installed for the electrical service..??
"...Route your coax from the antenna to just outside of the house. At this location install another ground rod. It's here is where your arrestor goes....After installing a ground wire or copper pipe inside the shack, to which all the equipment grounds are connected, route a large solid conductor wire from the inside shack ground out to this ground rod.
2 - I already have this setup but in place of a ground rod is a cool water cooper pipe. Just need to connect it to the electrical service ground rod.
Thanks.

Hello Team and pardon my ignorance. I'm planning to install 2m base antenna in the roof of the house, What's the best location for installing a lightning surge protector...?? like the type sold by MFJ...?? http://www.mfjenterprises.com/pictures/MFJ-270.jpgJust as a reference: The grounding rod for the house is in the North side of the house, the radio shack is on the South side, the antenna in the roof is in the middle, single-story house. Does it need to go close to the ground rod..? or close to the antenna, where the coax enters the antenna base in the mast...?? Thanks

Hello Team: What's the deal with those AM stations using the HAM bands.. Is actually 12:03 UTC and I'm hearing a station on 7.128 MHz. Seems like a country from East Europe, can not recognize the accent. Can they use the HAM bands...??

eHam Forums / Elmers / Tuning dual band mobile antenna..??

Hi: I measured the SWR with my "NGC-2000 Power & SWR Meter" the antenna and NMO base are mounted in the driver side of the truck bed towards the front. I can see two allen screws at the base of the antenna, not sure if they are for adjusting the lenght of the antenna. I guess I'll have to try the old method of "trial & error"....

eHam Forums / Elmers / Tuning dual band mobile antenna..??
|

Hello Team: I got a used "Comet CA-2x4SRB" dual band mobile antenna at the HamFest. The antenna is installed to an NMO mount attached to a bracket. The bracket itself is attached to the surface of the vehicle and the ground is OK. After installation I noticed that the SWR is between 1.7 and 2.2 in both bands. There's anyway to fix this... My previous antenna was using a magnetic mount and the SWR was 1.1 to 1.4 tops. Any ideas.. Thank you very much.
