I am trying to hook up a headset to the icom 736. I have a headset with mic on it and can not get it work with mic connector. I have the following pins so far soldered. Pin 6(PTT ground)(mic plug) to ground on my stereo female phone plug 1/8", pin 8(AF Output)(mic plug) to one of the center rings on a stereo female phone plug, and pin 1(Microphone input) to the other center pin on the stereo female phone plug. I have reversed the pin 8&1 wires and get the same results either way they are hooked to 8 pin mic plug. I have also adjusted the vox gain and when I speak into mic nothing happens. It does stay in xmit until I had adjusted the vox some. The headset that I am using is from Wal-Mart. It works great with my K3, but would like it to be used with icom too. Any suggestions?

Thanks to all so far who have responded. I realized that on the testing that I had done,I did not chk the antenna set for some reason, but I did last night and it was 2.5. I thought it was a lot lower than that when I put it up, so I will be taking it down and adjusting it. The reason for the 75ohm hard line is for the long run to my tower. The tower is any 120 away from house and then another 85 feet up tower to antenna. I was just tryin to cut down on the loss of power in feed line. I did test the hard line on 20 mtrs last night and was getting ant 580 watts base of tower with 600 watts out of amp. Tribander shows ant 1.5 sad on it. For now that seems ok for now. So for now I will be working on just the 6 meter line and only 100 watts thru it. Just thought I better explain my setup a little better. Thanks again John

I have bee looking for several days on the web and need a little help with what size of tororid to use for a 75ohm to 50 ohm unun. Needs to be able to handle legal power output. I will only be using abt 600 watts for now. I have some issues with my 75 ohm CATV hardline into 50 ohm rg213 coax. So thought I would try to build a unun to see how that will help. A little history on my current setup. I have abt 20 feet of 50 ohm coax going from radio to first side of 75 ohm hardline, then abt 110 feet of 75 ohm hardline to tower, then 80 feet of rg213 going up to tribander on top of tower. Same setup for six meters. I have been testing some this weekend during the vhf contest and with my bird meter at the base of the tower I show abt 60 watts out and abt 8 watts reflected, this run has 100 feet of rg8x coax to the beam (not the best to use, but all I had at the time). I would like to improve this if I can. Any suggestion would be great. But thought I would try to build a unun to match the lines as close as possible. Thanks for the help John km5ps

I am going to try the software listed above sometime in the future. But for now I have tried N1MM and N3FJP ARCI contest log and it will work just fine, but will not score it correctly. So if anyone else is having trouble finding a Logging program for the QRPTTF contest you can try those. Or just log it the old fashion way on paper. Just thought I would let everyone know since this has had quite a few hits.

I no longer have a system with Linux on it. I need a windows version. Thanks for you reply. I will bookmark the site so I can try it when I get Linux back on a system.

Does anyone know which logging software is best to use for the QRPTTF? I have used n1mm in the past using the arci log in n1mm, but it does not keep points right. So I was wondering what some other people where going to use this year. Any suggestion will be great.
Thanks John

Well the problem is solved. I hate to say that stupidity on my part is to blame. The way I had my K3 hooked up and the Icom 736 were different. I thought everything went threw my coax switches but the k3 was the only rig that was hooked directly to the amp. I took a day off of trying to figure it out and just happen to think that maybe the K3 was the only thing that was hooked up right, and sure enough it was. Now that I have changed my cables on my coax switches, both rigs now go directly to the amp. I guess that is a problem with two rigs, TWO many cables. Thanks for help, I feel pretty stupid for not checking that first. Thanks again guys for the information. Hopefully this post might help someone else out before they do what I did.

Frank I have now put a straight key in 736 and get the same results as before. I was using FM mode before to get solid carrier for tuning. When I key the 736 with straight key (cw mode)or FM Mode the amp still shows abt 140mA in plate meter and barely moves on Grid meter. It does this with straight key or when I use FM mode. My watt meter shows that I am putting out 50 watts. Yes I do have a dummy load and the 736 does put out 100 watts.

I have recently bought a icom 736 for a backup rig and I am trying to hook it up to an AL811h amp. I have hooked up the send line from rig to amp but when I key the rig in FM mode or CW mode my plate voltage meter reads abt 140 mA and the Grid meter does not move. I have also tried hooking up the ALC line also and get the same reading. I never have used the amp with an Icom rig before. I works fine with my K3 using the send line only. The icom manual says to use both send and ALC connections. I thought before I do that and mess with the ALC adj. on amp I would ask here first. i have the icom set at about 40 watts of drive.

eHam Forums / Computers And Software / ACLog problem with dx spots

I have been using ACLog for several years now, and lately my dx spots do not show up in the dx spot window at the bottom of the screen when I log the contact. They use too. I have doubled checked to see and I do have a check mark by spot dx on entry. I can go and manually spot the contact but it still does not show up in the bottom plane window like it use to. Anyone had this problem before? I have email Scott-N3FJP today but have not had a response yet. I think that they have quit supporting his contest software and maybe ACLog also, but don't know for sure.

Well that is what it says on it. It has Bird Electronics across the top of the slug and and 2-30MC 1kh1 on the bottom part of slug, also has 609 in the middle where the arrow is on the slug. I don't know if Bird Electronics made another model besides the Bird 43 or not. I have tried to research it on Google but can not find anything on it. We got this from a club member who is a silent key now. So I don't know how old the slug is. I was wondering if a person could change out the white part of bottom of the slug with another one and make it work? Thanks for the help.

Does anyone know if this slug is for the Bird 43. Our club has one and it will not lock into place in the bird. The slug is a little taller than our other slugs. It is about the thickness of the top ring that you turn- is how much longer it is than the other slugs we have. Not for sure if this is the right forum to ask but did see another forum right off.
Thanks John
