48  eHam Forums / CW / Mobile Keyer on: March 02, 2010, 05:03:01 PM
Where can I buy a mobile keyer?  I am wanting a mobile keyer that will strap to my leg.  I have seen these in the past but don't remember what the name or where to buy one.  I am wanting to hook it to my Winkey and practice some driving down the road.  Any help would be great.

Thanks
John

50  eHam Forums / Contesting / Ten Tec Orion or Elecraft K3 on: January 25, 2010, 07:20:36 AM
Not really a Contesting Topic but no forum for Tranceiver comparison.
I'm looking to buy either an Orion 1 or Elecraft K3. I would like to here from some who have used both and which one of them they think performs better. My mode is mainly CW. Not a hard contester yet but maybe someday. On the K3 I am looking at spending around $2350. for 100 watt kit and Ant. Tunner and 1- 400 hz 8 pole cw filter. For the Orion I am looking at one with no Tuner, but plan on buying one if I get one without the Tuner and it has most filters already installed. Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks

52  eHam Forums / Contesting / FL 101 Filter on: May 03, 2009, 08:25:19 AM
This really does not pertain to contesting-but I have a FL 101 250 khz cw filter installed in my Icom 737 A and I was wondering if these crystals can go bad.  I have been noticing that the signal changes when I engage the filter compared to what it use too. I can not zero in on a signal with the filter in. It wipes out the signals. Also the audio is different from what it was in the past when I use the filter. I was just wondering if these filters are known to go bad over time and use before I buy another FL 101 filter. I have not contacted Icom yet about this issue. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks john

Okay Thanks for the information. I was on the right track after all. I haven't really been trying to chase much DX but I am enjoying it more and more. Thanks again for the information.

When a DX station calling CQ DX UP-Does that mean that they are receiving 2 Kilohertz up? I am not for sure if I am understanding this correctly or not. Can anyone help me out here. The way that I am understanding it is for example- I am receiving the dx station on 14015.15 but need to transmit on 14017.15. Is this correct or am I not understanding this. I have tried to make contacts this way but no luck yet. Any help would be appreciated.

Tnx

55  eHam Forums / Contesting / CW Keying Interface on: April 15, 2009, 06:04:31 PM
K8GU-I have and Icom 737A.  I also posted this message in the CW Forum , and got a suggestion on buying a WinKey USB Kit. So I have went ahead and ordered one of these kits. It looks like it does exactly what I need. I have been using a external Memory keyer for Contesting but both of my MFJ -490 are on the blink. Got tired of messing with them and thought there had to be another way around this. So I hope that the Winkey will do the job. Thanks for your input on this.

57  eHam Forums / Contesting / CW Keying Interface on: April 13, 2009, 08:01:49 PM
I am trying to find a Interface cable or make one so that I can use my Bencher paddles along with my logging software. I am currently using N1MM, CT and N3FJP logging software. My Radio only has one CW jack in the back. So currently when using the logging software I have to either use only the program or only my Paddles with my internal Keyer. I also have a couple of MFJ memory keyers but that are not working no longer. That is what I was using along with my logging software for an external Keyer. I would like to be able to use my Bencher Paddles along with my logging software but have not figured out yet how to do that, so I thought that I would come here and ask for some advice. I have seen one Interface from the TRLog website-Model 3 but do not know if it is talking about a external electronic keyer or being able to use my current Keyer. I would greatly appreciate any advice on this issue.
