16  eHam Forums / Elmers / Your recommendation: used HF rig with Audio DSP on: February 14, 2010, 01:29:17 PM
Hi, I am looking for an interim-use HF rig, 100 watt,  used,   with Audio DSP (not IF DSP, thus less expensive)  to hold me over til I get my old ant farm revamped/refurbished (a year project) , then I'll buy a new current rig and spend some bucks, HI.
Your recommendation is appreciated. I do not know the used market very well for this type of spec.

17  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Good comerical made multi band diapole? on: February 14, 2010, 01:13:53 PM
the Cobra Ultra Lite (different Cobra co. than Cb radios , etc) is an exc multiband ant based on entirely different concept than G5RV's, etc, out there.  See  K1JEK.com     K1JEK, Joe the owner, has put a lot of thought into the quality of his construction.   eham  reviews are strong:  10 pages and without counting there are likely 95% +   5/5 ratings and one I noticed at 4/5 says that it is a great antenna.   A few below the top ratings likely could resolve their matter by revisiting their installation , location, and any non-conforming issues with the antenna.    My company used to sell the best version of a G5RV until Joe's Cobra Ultra Lite came along.  So yes, I have a relationship with Joes' company, but my word and reputation is exc, so they tell me.  Also, I've seen it all, been licensed for 50 years.

18  eHam Forums / Elmers / GPS Data Base Company-Who is it??? on: January 30, 2010, 08:32:21 AM
Hi, about a year ago I found a web site that was apparently a main supplier of GPS data to the GPS device companies such as Garmin, Magellan ,  etc.  The site allowed you to see their maps and submit a correction to their base.  In my case the end of my dead end road does not connect to a nearby street,... they had it as connecting, causing a lot of problems on my street.  Of course I didn[t book mark it and I can't find it again googling.   If you know the web site, would be much appreciated as I need to see if they ever corrected it (albeit, that will only help the situation for new units using the update and folks who update..... i.e, still will be many GPS's out there with the error data)
Tnx much for your help,   Steve  K1PEK
19  eHam Forums / Company Reviews / RE: Ocean Electronics Defunct? on: January 30, 2010, 08:25:30 AM
Over the years I have formed the opinion that the folks at OSE mean well, and the recent reply from them (see the Elmer section) is well intentioned.  As founder of DAVIS RF Co., I would only suggest that they be a bit more careful on charging  the customer credit card prior to actual shipment.  DAVIS RF  only charges a card once the shipment is made (and 99% of our shipments of regularly stocked items occur same day or next day if order received after 1:00 pm EST).
Best of luck to OSE, one of almost all small to large businesses who are feeling the effect of less than academic and political ill management of our economy by many governement administrations in the past.
They should post the same reply here, but also need to make their current remedial planning work, and be evident to the public.  I admit, past postings, prior to the economic turn down, are concerning.
I, and DAVIS RF, are not connected in any way to OSE.

Hi,  you are 36.  I suspect that after 36 more years as a ham, you will likely be interested in looking at the QST listing for those hams you have made friends with over the years.  And, upon seeing such listing, by then you might even want to send a note  of condolence to the family, indicating that he/she was a nice guy, a good ham, or whatever, that made you remember him.... just maybe.
   Cheers,  Steve, K1PEK

Then agn, I've been to some ham fleas where numerous boat ancors would be somebody's nightmare.   Cheers,  Steve, K1PEK
24  eHam Forums / Computers And Software / Web site search by user specified key word ?? on: January 03, 2010, 07:10:30 PM
There is a service where you can, for instance, specify a daily search of Craig's List (or other certain web sites) and you specify the search, like within the Electronics category and by key words "ham radio".  Couple years ago somebody  used this to be alerted of my ham ad there.  Does anybody know this service and what the web site to sign up is???
  Any help much appreciated

25  eHam Forums / Computers And Software / RE: Software for scanning web site ads, using key word on: January 03, 2010, 07:04:36 PM
Dimitri,   Hi,  actually Google Alert is not what I need.  There is some service that will search a web site that you specify, and will report back to you if the key word you specified is found.   In my case, for example, I'd like to have Craigs List searched for "ham radio".   I will repost this inquiry with hopefully a better Subject.   Tnx again for your help,  Steve  K1PEK

Demetri,

Tnx very much for this info.  I will pursue.  There was another service I heard of a while back, just can't remember, but I am sure this will do what I need. The one I heard of works for Craig's List and other sites that are set up such that an outside service is able to scan.

  Any other contributors are welcome.

Tnx again, very much,  73,  Steve   K1PEK
27  eHam Forums / Computers And Software / Software for scanning web site ads, using key word on: January 02, 2010, 03:35:29 PM
Hi, I know there is a software, or a web site, that you can utilize to scan various web sites like ham ads, tech articles, etc.  You input the key word(s) and ur email address, it notifies you.  Can anybody tell me what this is called and how I can go about utilizing it??   Much tnx,  Steve  K1PEK

29  eHam Forums / Elmers / Used gear price sources on: December 31, 2009, 03:34:10 PM
Hi, if you know any web sites that list sale prices of used gear, I'd appreciate this info.  I have some gear for sale and have no idea how to determine the fair going price.  One is a TS 830S which I can't find any recent advertisements for.
I have seen one dealer sight years ago that listed their past sales, but can't find it now.  Any help appreciated.
Maybe you know a dealer that I would be willing to help me with what they would price it at.
Also, I have a homebrew 4CX1000A RF deck that I'd like to find some hams who are into amplifier stuff who would know what to value it at.
 Any help greatly appreciated.

K1BQT: Yeh Rick, if you told me, I'd market it thru the greatest, most Customer Satisfaction, high quality, and price competive ham and commercial aerial wire/cable/RF connector entity in the World.  However, I can't mention the name because I am closely connected.
Folks, another great Elmer from that limited source, Rick, K1BQT, a recently retired engineer, inventor, sooth-sayer, political pundit, all around nice guy and retired Senior Design Engineer for a major antenna mfr.  Yes, deluge him with emails for answers to your every need..(only thru Elmer please, not direct email...he's on dial-up) .. he may be board in retirement (Not)    HI    Cheers,  Steve
