1  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: DARC Worked All Europe award? on: May 15, 2013, 09:12:12 AM
I like wallpaper, but finding the cards to verify
would be very difficult. They are everywhere.

I have all but 4U1V, Bear Is, and of course...Monk Apollo.

I have to keep an ear out for him.
The Maldives would be an ATNO.

Hi Tor,
Thanx for all the contest Q's...

I could not tell you if it was LP or SP. I was using a 4BTV at the time.
I have heard that Monaco has a LARGE mountain or series
of mountains to the west of the Principality making
SP to the US difficult. Don't know if that is correct or not,
as I read it in the internet, and you know how RELIABLE
internet data is.

But I can state, that was the first time I have heard anyone from Monaco
loud enough to try and call them. And it all worked out.

Thanks for using foul language in your title. It really makes this place look classy.

It got YOU to read.....eh?

I try to read them all. Typically I can learn something. This one seems more about whining than anything?

I don't care if you use it in your post, I just think CAPS and foul language in a title look bad.

Not whining at all...Just an expression of sheer FRUSTRATION !
After 5 years+ of chasing Monaco, I finally hear someone, they answer
and someonme fires up and potentially BUSTS the Q.

But the point is moot.
I already have the LoTW confirmation.

With my limited facilities, I have to make the MOST
of every new DXCC (new to me) I can't afford to lose one due to a busted Q, busted by someone else.

Monaco is a dime a dozen... don't worry if you don't work this one you'll work another.

Sorry Ryan, but in the 5 years I have been chasing Monaco,
this is the FIRST time I have had a decent signal from there.
I see stations from Monaco posted on DX Summit all the time,
but I can NEVER hear them.
This time was different.

They are NOT a dime a dozen for me.

I'm still doin the happy dance.

He is a LoTW user too, that makes things even better,
but I will probably send for a hard card this time.

I have been chasing Monaco for a LONG time.

A short while ago, I saw 3A2MW on 15m JT-65 calling CQ.
I answered him, and he sent back a signal report to me...no problem.
I sent back my report to him, when it was his turn to reply,
SOME DORK from CHILE decided to call CQ 5 cycles
LOWER than my contact.

Since I have no idea IF he replied, I cannot count Monaco
as an ATNO.

DAMNIT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
10  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: VK9NT - Norfolk Island on: May 13, 2013, 09:58:02 AM
Here we (I) go again...

Another (what should be) relatively easy one that I never heard.

I worked ZL & VK over the weekend in the Volta RTTY
contest easily, but NO Norfolk.

From the map programs I have, Norfolk sits between
ZL & VK so it should have been easy.....

NOT !
11  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: TL3TE/1 on: May 12, 2013, 02:20:28 PM
That's it and I'm in his clublog at his QRZ page.

I had it at 08:45

Much Appreciated.

This may be a stupid question but what does  /1 mean?

WB2RHM/4
JA5DUR/3

This is just conjecture, but I suspect he
was operatingh from the New Zealand 1st call district.

Just like your /4 and /3
12  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: TL3TE/1 on: May 12, 2013, 11:42:25 AM
I copied the call as ZL3TE/1
I got him at 0621z this morning
in the Volta RTTY contest on 20m.
13  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: What the H*** on: May 08, 2013, 07:08:30 PM
Condx have been better here the last few days.

Made 6-8 JT-65 Q's today
and Oman, Asiatic Turkey & Ecuador on 20m CW just a while ago.

But they could ALWAYS be BETTER !

Not necessarily so.

I worked a SLIM at the same time VU4PB was active on Andaman & Nicobar
Islands. Problem was, IT WAS SOMEONE ELSE IDing AS VU4PB.
That particular DXPedition was widely publicized.
That was back on March 25, 2011 on 20m CW.

in addition

I worked a station IDing as SV2ASP/A from Mt Athos.
Problem was, it was NOT Monk Apollo.
That was on 15m rtty Sept 30, 2011.
Monk Apollo had been spotted a bunch of times both BEFORE
the SLIM and AFTER the SLIM on 15m rtty.
Monk Apollo is the ONLY operator on Mt Athos and is difficult to snag.
He appears from time to time, sometimes months in between appearances.
