Thanks for all the help with my problem with High SWR when there is dampness. I have found one problem. The s0239 connecters on my radio are shorted. I ruled out all the cables which were checked for shorts. Thanks again...73 ...Dave

Hello, I have two vertical antennas. One for 40/80 meters/butternut hf 2v,ground mounted, and I also have a Hygain 12 AVQ for 10/15/20 meters that is mounted on the roof:15 feet off the ground. These antennas have low swr when outside conditions are mostly dry. I find that when it rains or snows the swr goes up sometimes on one antenna and not the other. Just wonder what is the cause of the swr going up? Thanks for any information....Dave

Hello, I am just looking for any opinions on having a TEN TEC Jupiter or a Omni7. I presently have a Jupiter and really enjoy using it on CW which is the primary mode I am interested in. I wonder if I upgraded to an Omni 7, would my recieving weak signal DX CW improve greatly? Thanks for any information...Dave...NK8A

Hello, I would like to know if anyone has tried a scaf- 1 filter with a 570 dg. I have a dsp 59+ filter and it will work fine at certain times, but I would like to know about the scaf filter for noise reduction. I use the attenuation and the noise reduction features on the 570d but they do reduce incoming signal strength. I am mainly a cw operator. Thanks for any information....Dave

eHam Forums / Elmers / Working a dx cw station "up"

Hello, I wonder if anyone can tell me how far up in frequency I should tune, when working a cw station that tells you "up". I was listening to a station today and I tuned up one kc and listened. I could not hear the stations the dx station was running ,even though I tuned around a little higher in frequency. It seems other dx stations I have worked go up only one kc. Thanks for any help....Dave....NK8A

Hello, I would like to upgrade my rig. I now have a kenwood ts 570 that is very good for cw. I think I should have a rig with a better reciever. I have a good dx antenna, hf2v, with many radials. I would like to hear some opinions on upgrading or staying with what I have... thanks...Dave,..NK8A

eHam Forums / Elmers / Rotatable dipole or vertical for 40 meters
|
on: February 27, 2007, 01:19:34 PM
|
|
I would like to know if I should buy a rotatable dipole with 40 meters on it , or stick to my ground mounted vertical with 26 radials.I would only be able to mount the dipole about 25 feet above ground.I would like to have 10/15/20 meter capability that a rotatable dipole that i have in mind would offer. I could buy a dipole that also has 40 meters on it also.I thought it would be nice to have 2 antennas on 40 meters to compare.By the way ,my vertical covers only 40 and 80 meters. Thanks for any suggestions or advice....Dave..NK8A

eHam Forums / Elmers / Upgrading a transciever

Hello, I am presently using a kenwood 570dg for mostly cw dx chasing. I have had very good results in my opinion, as far as finding and working good dx.I have a great performing vertical , ground mounted with 26 radials. I have an urge to upgrade to a 2 to 3000 dollar rig that has one of these "quiet recievers" that hears things that other transcievers cant. I would just like to know if a 570 with good antennas, can hear near as well as a top of the line rig can? Also is it worth the extra money to upgrade? Thanks for any advice....Dave

eHam Forums / Computers And Software / db9 serial connector/usb port
|
on: February 10, 2007, 02:32:11 PM
|
|
hello ,I have been trying to connect my radio to my computer so I can communicate with my 570dg. the radio has a db9 serial (male) connector and my newer computer has only usb ports on it. I bought an adapter that has a usb connector on one end and a db9 on the other end and I hooked it up. I have had no luck so far. I did try hooking the db9 cable by itself to my old lap top that has a 9 pin serial connector on it and the kenwood software worked to control the 570. I would like to use ham radio deluxe if possible. I just wonder, is a usb port equal to a db9 serial port? any suggestions or help will be apprieciated...thanks ..Dave

I HAVENT TRIED IT YET, BUT I AM GOING TO USE STAPLES FOR THE RADIALS I WILL ADD TO MY VERTICAL. THE FIRST 26 RADIALS I INSTALLED I SLIT THE GRASS WITH A NARROW SPADE SHOVEL, AND THIS METHOD TOOK MORE TIME AND EFFORT THAN I FEEL IS NEEDED. THE TYPE OF STAPLES I WILL USE ARE AVAILBLE AT LOWES HOME IMPROVEMENT CENTERS. THEY ARE TYPE THAT ARE USED FOR ATTACHING FENCING TO POSTS AND THEY ARE SHARP....GOOD LUCK
