Hi,
I'm not sure if I'm posting in the the right forum.
I'm looking for two 2.4GHz 24dbi grid antennas (bbq antenna). I live in the bay area (san francisco) and I would like to know if anyone knows where I can find some in this area. I don't want to buy it on internet, I want to see it before buying.
Thanks.

Hi,
I've started to do some experimentations with wireless network using Linksys 2.4ghz equipments (wrt54gs-router and wet54g-internet bridge) in the ham part of the band (channel 1-6). I'm also using grid antenna 15 dBi.
I need a software to monitor the signal and noise level..etc. Since I am not using a wireless card directly in my laptop I have nothing to measure the signal. All software I've found doesn't work with the bridge or router.
Can you help me please ?
Thanks,
Carl - KG6WTF

Hi, I hope you'll accept this in the digital forum ;-)) I've made a small script (vb script) to control Echolink. - the Script can automatically disable and enable Echolink twice a day. - Station's identification announcement every hour. - Sends the QSOLog on your website after each QSO. Copy the script on your disk, adjust hours, callsign and FTP parameters in the script, then shutdown Echolink, and double-click on the script to start Echolink. Save this script on your disk and name it: echolink_enable_disable.vbs http://kg6wtf.gosselinfamily.com/scripts/echolink_enable_disable.txt You can go on my website to see my QSO's log (Click on "List of QSO on KG6WTF-L" to see the log) http://kg6wtf.gosselinfamily.com/activity.html 73, Carl - KG6WTF

Thanks Stephen for your response... and the french ;-)
This answers my questions !
I have planned to use a frequency in the 70cm with PL. It's pretty quiet in that band arround here. I have a few more questions if you don't mind:
You said I need to have a method of ID. Are you talking about sending my station's identification on the air regularly (in morse code) ?
I read something about a Frequency Coordinator. I'm not sure about this part, I saw nothing about that in Part 97. Do you know what is it exactly ?

Hi,
I think I have been misunderstood a little bit.
Actually, I spent over 2 weeks of Googleing about Echolink on the net !
I know that I can install Echolink on my computer and talk over the net vitualy anywhere without any radio installed in my shack. But I think that way I will miss the fun of using radios to communicate. I would like to link my Echolink with a VA3TO interface to my FT-7800R. And then when I go around town in my car or in my backyard I'll use my HT or TM-D700A(car) to talk thru my echolink setup.
I know I can do that with the local repeater already in place with Echolink ! I live in California and I'm come from Quebec and would like to have some communication with friends in Quebec. I dont want to do that just in front of my computer...I use MSN to do that and I'm not sure it's a good idea to talk in french with Echolink over the local repeater.
If I can have my own Echolink repeater with my radio I wont bother anybody on the local repeater with french and I'll be able to talk with my friends in the car.
With this setup of Echolink... I'll not be present at the control point when using in my car.
That was my initial question: Do I need to do something special about to do that or is it illegal to leave the station running Echolink in the shack unattended ? Do I need a second radio (on another frequency) linked to the VA3TO to control Echolink in case of a problem with the main radio like the FCC recommends (97.200).
Thanks for your answer

Hi,
I new in the amateur radio world..I passed my tech license, but I am still waiting for my call sign to be posted on the FCC website.
I would like to setup a Echolink repeater at home.
I searched the FCC part 97 and I cannot find answers to my questions. Would someone be able to help me out?
- Is an echlink considered a repeater ?
- If yes, do I need a repeater permit ?
- Do I need to setup an auxilary station to control the Echolink "repeater" ?
- Do I need to ask the FCC for a new call sign for the Echolink repeater -> xx6xxx-R ?
Thanks,
73
Carl
