1  eHam Forums / RFI / EMI / RE: S9 QRM on 6M on: July 26, 2011, 04:51:31 PM
If there there is any LED lighting used in the building or near-by, this may cause the problem you're having.

Hi Paul,
I just today picked up a used AV18HT but probably won't install it until next spring. I'd like to learn any comments you might receive from your posted question so that I'll know exactly what to look for. And of course in the true Ham tradition, if you can't figure it out.....how much will you sell it for??

3  eHam Forums / Company Reviews / Hank Breedlove Antenna Mounts and accessories on: December 01, 2008, 05:37:45 PM
I purchased my pick-up bed mount from Jerry Breedlove at his shop in Gastonia, NC during a visit with our son who lives in Charlotte. The workmanship on this mount is second to none. I've had several mobile mounts over the years and have never had anything that can compare to this one or even begin to come close.

I also purchased a quick disconnect type device that allows you to make about 2 turns on an all brass machined piece and lay the whip portion of a screwdriver antenna 90 degrees making it easy to enter your garage or parking deck. This device sure beats the heck out of having to unscrew the whip everytime you want to enter a garage or fool around with those twist type quick disconnects that offer poor contact at best. I've also operated my Icom IC-706MKIIG with the antenna in the folded position too and didn't notice any difference in performance. You sure can't do that with any other quick disconnect out there that I'm aware of.

Jerry is a master machinest and a great guy who will entertain any design ideas you may have too and just need someone to do the machining. I have serious doubt that there is anyone else offering the talent, quality, and workmanship that Breedlove offers and I'd highly recommend his products to all.

I'd highly recommend using W5YI. Fred does an outstanding job and knows the system very well to make the entire process effortless for you.

5  eHam Forums / Company Reviews / Serious Problem with Mosley on: June 28, 2008, 05:04:46 PM
I had the exact same experience as K0OD back in the late 90's. I was in the area on business and stopped by Mosley for a visit and asked Gary for a tour and was informed because they were doing government contracts the tour wasn't possible. Shortly thereafter I ordered PRO96 and so did my next door neighbor. What a mistake that was because delivery was very slow and I heard every excuse in the book during each phone call I made to check on the status of the order. I guess I should have followed my gut feeling I had after making my visit to the factory and bought a Force 12.
From my experience, I'd never recommend a Mosley antenna to anyone these days. I must say that mechanically they are very well built, but performance leaves much to be desired.

6  eHam Forums / Mobile Ham / IC-7000 / HS-1800 Best way to tune? on: December 23, 2007, 05:33:09 PM
I've tried almost everything out there including most of those you mentioned. There is nothing better than the TurboTuner by N2VZ. It's a true plug & play unit and worth the price. I'd suggest you call Bill and chat with him about it. I've used his device with my two 706MKIIG's and have heard they do just as well with the 7000.

7  eHam Forums / DXing / "Pileup Management" at it's BEST! on: November 16, 2007, 05:49:12 PM
I agree 100% with Gene, AF3Y, Charlotte has her act together. Many big DXpeditions could learn a few lessons from her operation procedures and I'm referring to her simplex operating protocol. 73, Mick

9  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / TS-130SE Tx problem on: October 04, 2006, 04:57:50 PM
Dave your problem may be one that was more common with the original TS-120 series, but could be a carry over to the 130 series too. Having owned both a 120 and a 130SE I'd suggest you remove the cabinet and loosen all the screws that hold the boards in place and then retighten them. Better yet is to install small internal starlock washers under the screw head in order to always have a good ground contact.

Following this simple suggestion gives you authorization for 2 Pints aty your local pub.

Cheers,

10  eHam Forums / Elmers / Antenna Installations on: April 09, 2006, 04:41:07 PM
My suggestion would be to contact someone local that does installation of mobile cell phones. If you explain what you need they can usually do it with ease and can also run power direct from the battery in a professional manner. it may cost a few dollars but it'll be done properly.

11  eHam Forums / Clubs / Keystone International Six meter Society on: March 26, 2006, 05:43:59 PM
Jeff I question why anyone would want to start up an organization like KISS when there already exists an outstanding group known as SMIRK (Six Meter International Radio Klub) which has been around since the early 70's, if not before. There are currently in excess of 6600 members worldwide. SMIRK has contributed greatly over the years to putting countries on 6 meters by supplying equipment to interested operators worldwide in addition to other important support.

I'd like to suggest you check out the SMIRK website at this address http://www.smirk.org/.

Just as an aside, I've been an active 6 meter operator since 1960 and belong to several groups that promote activity on 6 meters, but I must be honest and tell you that none of them have contributed to the high degree SMIRK has.If you have not already done so, I'd like you and the other members of KISS to consider joining this premier group supporting 6 meters worldwide which issecond to none.

I'd suggest you check out the ARRL webpage where they offer lot's of info regarding this subject under the licensing topic. If you are not a member of the ARRL....this is another good reason to become one.
13  eHam Forums / Elmers / ballpark cost to have pro install tower ??? on: July 24, 2004, 10:00:46 PM
KZ1X has a great idea which I'm certain many would not have thought about.

The key is to go slow and have patience. If you hurry..you'll be sorry!
