1  eHam Forums / Computers And Software / Flying Horse Callbook on: July 30, 2007, 03:31:45 PM
I got the CD yesterday (30JUL07) took over 5 months to arrive... Some would say "better late then ever". I may agree but I suggest next time they advertise the edition AFTER they have it in stock! No before! Also a better effort in replying their costumers! Specially new ones!

3  eHam Forums / DXing / concept of DX ?!?! on: January 10, 2005, 05:27:24 AM
Thank you Steve and Dee, fer the reply, I still am a bit uncertain of what DX means exacly, but ok I hope some more coments pop here in the forum, about propagation Steve, I am not an expert, some things u said are "chinese" to me hi! but ok on the propagation being in the Azores, what I have experienced several times was having openings to USA when nobody else has in Europe, specialy in higher bands, and having good S reports here and there with low power, salt wather, hi!
One other thing the u mentioned Steve, about me "being nice" and give, or be a new one for newbies, i would feel good about that... let me tell you that there isnt one sigle day, or weekend that I dont log at least 100 QSO's!
Just a quick statistic from my logbook, I have over 1000 QSO's only to Great Britain... hope that gives u a better Idea that I am not selfish, I realy like to be an amateur radio in all its meannings, what I am complaining is when I try to work some DX, usualy to work AF for example, I have to work 200 EU stations, that sometimes is fustrating...
I worked Japan, twice with 25 Watts and a Vertical antenna...
I worked Hong Kong with 100 watts and a wire dipole :-)

My Country is PORTUGAL, my DXCC entity is CU , Azores

Cheers
4  eHam Forums / DXing / "No eQSL pls" - what's this? on: January 07, 2005, 10:55:34 AM
its not my reason, but you may not beleive how many hams dont have internet! why should these people have 500 eQSL card requests with out even knowing what that is?!

5  eHam Forums / DXing / concept of DX ?!?! on: January 07, 2005, 09:19:12 AM
Hi all, first let me wish who ever u are a happy new year, and I would like to start saying the as a PT native some of my english sentences migth lead to wrong thougths, so apologies for that...

Here is a BIG question I would like to make, to the DX experts, What is the meaning of "CQ CQ DX" or what is the difrence of calling CQ CQ CQ de:... and/or CQ CQ CQ DX de:... ?! Some of you migth be thinking what kind of basic question is this, hi! Is it realy basic?
Here is my explanation for all this, I have been a ham since 1999, since then, I like to listen a lot, I am one hell of a listenner, I spend hours and hours listenning to all kind of operation u can think and I have learned good and bad things doing that!
I like to DX, I have a few goals, expectations as a amateur radio, well as a big variety of things you can do in this hobbie, one always prefers this or that, I like dxing, I like to hunt new DXCC and ocasionaly I hunt a few awards also, I am not a Contest fan, well thats enough...
My basic questions:
Do you know where the Azores Islands are?
Do you know which continent Azores belong?
Am I wrong or when someone calls CQ DX is trying to work stations outside of its continent?!
Since I passed recently my CW exam, I became quite active in CW, its a fun MODE, but I am veri disapointed because everysingle time I call on a frequency in no time I hardly can breath, I am still in a learning stage of my CW activity, not much on the code its self, but more the habits, or the small words like FB, etc, I now noticed many people doing BK, etc... I also started  to be more active on low bands, specialy on 80m at the DX window and 160m...etc...

My Main question here is why so many people fall on me and pretend they dont hear what I am saying, I have only 100w of power, wich have proof me mni times its enough to work any far DX station as long there is propagations, It is RARERLY when I break a Pileup so most of my DX worked is when I call CQ DX, but unfortunatly on CW is more dificult for me to express my frustation when I call CQ DX and I have Europeans calling and calling and calling, some people told me to call ASIA or other thing, but its absurd to do that when you have a wire and 100watts like me! Yeah yeah yeah, I am a CU station, so what?!?! there are a few 500 more CU's around here, or maybe even more, even if there wasnt dont I have a rigth to have a chat (rag chew) or have a nice loooong QSO with a good friend, or  just try to work some new contries?!
Well I have been called a rude operator, because I making QSO's to loong while a pile up was waiting for me, well escuse me I am NOT a DXpedition, I dont have QSL managers or whant to have, I dont print 50.000 qsl cards every year, I am simply an amateur radio, that lives in the Azores Islands and likes to do a bit of radio here and there.

So I end this (oops got loong) with a simple question, when I call dx I am calling OUTSIDE of the European Continent, rigth??

Cheers

6  eHam Forums / CW / Where are all the young CW operators? on: January 07, 2005, 06:09:18 AM
Hi ALL, (HNY)
I was updating my eham profile, etc... and then surffed a bit around, this topic called my attention, I am 30, since last Sep. (2004) I was 29 when I passed my CW Exam, I am not sure it was between 15wpm to 20wpm, here is still a must but I think they will dropp it soon... anyway two strong (sentimental) reasons made be go for it, now; well... hopefuly some of "u" heard me already... I still enjoy SSB vri much but CW has become also very interesting, ohh bye the way, I still aint confortable with automatic dits and dats, so when/if "u" hear me I am trasnmiting with a straight Key.

PS: I think speed above something (in my opinion)HUMAN, is absurd, I still have  RX dificulties, but I can and  enjoy a longer conversation, when impatient "pileups" aloud me so...

Cheers to all
