eHam Forums / Misc / "SMOKING" vs "NON-SMOKING" Env

Although the issue of ham equipment exposed to a "smoking environment" vs a "non-smoking" may have been addressed previously, I have yet to find it! If it is, please direct me to the correct forum/link. If not, then I am requesting specific "FACTS" relative to these two issues. Please: "NO OPINIONS"!!!! I am seeing more and more ads with "non-smoking" in them. Both buying and selling. Help me out here? I just do not know what this has to do with selling or buying? I have sold and bought many different items for the past 10yrs, now. I posted an ad yesterday. It just so happened this one was in my mobile. I do not smoke in my mobile. However, all of the rest of my equipment is exposed to a "smoking environment"!!! So, if you see an ad posted in the future by me, you should already know the answer in the previous statement!! Thanks, Jerry KF4UJA

Even though I understand the function of tuning, I would appreciate additional info on this issue. My TS-2000 has the AAT function feature. Also, I have a TEN-TEC 238 external tuner. Why would I need, or not need, both? I am planning to have my G5RV, 204', 10-160 meters up very soon. Thanks, Jerry KF4UJA

Many, Many "THANK YOU'S" to all who responded to my issue/question!!!! I do not care to say that I was totally ignorant to any and all RoHS technological issues!! The input from all of you assisted me in making my decision to purchase the newer model DR-235TMKIII that very afternoon. I did make the seller of the used unit a reasonable offer but did not get any response from him, however(?). I wonder why?!?! 73 Jerry KF4UJA GOD's Abundant Blessings To All

eHam Forums / Elmers / LEAD FREE vs LEAD SOLDERING

At the present time I am considering purchasing a used DR-235T or the newer model DR-235TMKIII. Yesterday I called Ham Distributors about the difference between the 2 models. I was told by Eric that the only difference was that the newer model is "lead free".(this applies to all products sold by Alinco, as they are a global corporation and other countries have placed restrictions on lead soldering). I also received an email from the person I was considering purchase of a used DR-235T. Ironically, he stated, and I quote: "The newer ones with the lead free solder are questionable at best". Now, I value all input on this issue from any of you relative to the pros and cons of this issue. For instance, opinions, factual technical aspects, future problems, and any other related input, etc., as related to the above quote! I would appreciate any and all immediate responses, as I need to make a decision ASAP. Thanks, Jerry KF4UJA

Thank you so very much!!!!!! As a result of your replies, I contacted BetterRf to validate the expected auto module for their turner. I received an email within 5 minutes confirming that the module will be available in early September. Cost in the $50's! I had already purchased the present one. Your info helped me make the decision to wait until it is on the market. Maybe this info will be helpful to others. I hope so!!!!!! Jerry KF4UJA

I am seeking input/advice from those of you who are so much more knowledgeable than I. And, I respect all of your advise. I recently purchased an IC-7000. I will be purchasing a Tarheel Antenna for use on mobile. 1. Those of you who are now using or have used either of these tuners. 2. Why such a large difference in price??? 3. Are there others on the market which are better/ease of use/more efficient, etc? 4. Any and all other recommendations or comments Thanks, 73 Jerry KF4UJA eMail: pjhensley@sctv.coopPhone: 276-479-1301

eHam Forums / Company Reviews / HAM DISTRIBUTORS (Alinco)--Beyond My Expectations
|
on: August 09, 2007, 02:32:57 PM

A few months ago I purchased a DJ-196T & a DJ-596T from R & L Electronics. Also, I purchased 2 EBP-51N batteries along with the rapid charger. After about a month the EBP-50N on the 2 mtr HT began to cycle and would not take a charge. I called R & L and sent the battery back to them. R & L called a few days later. No "malfunction" with the battery was detected. However, the day I received the battery from R & L, it still was in the same shape as when I sent it. About 2 weeks later the same "malfunction" occurred with the dual band! So, I called Ham Distributors in Conroe, TX. Larry Lowry, WD5CFJ, did not hesitate to tell me that, unfortunately, a bad "batch" of batteries (EBP-50N) on many HT's had been sent to some dealers. He assured me that he would personally see to it that he would send me replacements. Not only did I receive 2 EBP-50N's but he also sent me 3 additional new EBP-50N's! And, he ask me if I would like to try the newer EBP-56N. So, he also sent me this one along with the rapid charger!!! At no cost to me! How many other distributors (Yaesu, Kenwood, or Icom) would do the same? I think not!!!!!!!!! Other Alinco radios I own & use: DR-635T, DR-135TMKII, 2 DR-235T's, (one for base, one for mobile). Larry and your other personnel have satisfied me with your "OVER & BEYOND" reasonable Customer Service!!!!! I highly recommend them, especially if the dealer does not correct the problem/issue that is "reasonable"!!!!!! Jerry KF4UJA
