1  eHam Forums / Elmers / TMD710 TS2000 on: April 23, 2009, 08:30:23 AM
Is there any way to use the TMD710's panel to control, by wire, a TS2000 like was possible using the TMD700's panel ?
Perhaps via an adapter....

Thanks and 73

2  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / Kenwood TS-480 power meter on: September 09, 2008, 01:13:57 AM
My TS-480SAT works good and really delivers the stated 100W output power also on FM.

Curiously, the output power meter moves a bare notch indicating less than 10W while delivering the full power. The same behaviour is exhibited while tuning the external antenna tuner: but here must be normal.

I think une possible cure could be to change some menu setting. I have downloaded the service manual but, I must admit, where not able to find the correct item to adjust.

I know that problem is not a great problem, but nevertheless I want to solve it.

Thanks.

I'll do some investigations. Taking care not to void the warranty of either the TS-2000 or the 5124K.

Thanks and 73s.

I posted this message to MFJ's tech people:
---------------------------
I use an MFJ-994B tuner since two years, in a remote installation, using an MFJ-993RC manual remote control. The operations are smooth and ok.

Now I bought an MFJ-5124K adapter to cope with a Kenwood TS-2000.
The problem is the transceiver seems not to recognize the external tuner, and activates the internal tuner instead.
I power the 994B via the 5124K cable, and the green led on the 993RC glows a few seconds after powering on the TS-2000 (just as before installing the 5124K).

I never used my TS-2000 with an external tuner, and I left the 993RC connected (but not operated) also using the 5124K.

After powering on, I measure about 5V on both the two lines starting from the stereo mini jack toward the tuner.

As the 994B is remoted, can You please suggest me some test to do before I must dismantle the 994B in order to operate it near the TS-2000 and 5124K ?

Thanks.

As I received no answer, I hope to have hints and/or experiences from here.

5  eHam Forums / Elmers / IF OUT on a Icom IC-R8500 on: August 06, 2007, 02:08:37 PM
I connected the IF OUT to the antenna input of my TS2000 tuned to 10.7 MHz and, yes, seems as the IF OUT level is very down when compared to the 8500 received signal.
The output signal does not change when changing the received mode on the 8500.
If that behaviour is not due to a fault, I'm starting to think I need a low level preamplifier for the 10.7 MHz signal.
Thanks friends.

6  eHam Forums / Elmers / IF OUT on a Icom IC-R8500 on: August 06, 2007, 07:11:15 AM
From the IF OUT jack of my 8500 I can measure the 9 Vdc but no trace of the 10.7 MHz rf signal.
A fellow of mine told me his 8500 too shows the same behaviour.

Before to try to open the equipment and see what happened, let me ask if someone can tell me something about.
Thanks in advance.

7  eHam Forums / Elmers / IC-R8500 tcxo on: June 26, 2007, 03:12:41 AM
Shure I don't want modify anything.
I don't need atomic generators, but as I bought a tcxo I would have an easy way to verify if the tcxo is working ok and correct it's frequency, if necessary.
On most apparatus, to recalibrate the local xtal reference there is a "hole" accessible from the outside or accessible after removing only the outer cover of the apparatus. On the IC-R8500 one must open three boxes: that's generating my surprise !

Ok for the first time install.
My aim is to find a simpler way to subsequent (e.g. one year ?) control and regulation of the tcxo generated frequency due to aging of the xtal. One must open the whole receiver to do that.

I decided to give a present to my beloved Icom IC-R8500: a CR293 tcxo.
The manual shows a not easy setup procedure: it is necessary to remove the bottom cover + a metal plate + shield cover. A total of 14 screws (to install the tcxo there are 10 more screws to remove).
Although the tcxo setup procedure must not be repeated too frequently, did other hams discovered a more non intrusive method to carry out that job ?
Thanks and 73

10  eHam Forums / Elmers / Yaesu FNB-78 on: May 09, 2007, 02:18:52 AM
Thanks Charles, but I don't want to replace the FNB78. I only want to charge the two FNB78 I have through the 6 pin connector (not detailed in the eham's article).
I know I can use my tester to investigate that pinout, but I would be more sure (the FNB78 and, as reported, the CD-24 datasheets don't show that pinout).

I'm looking for the pinout assignement of the 6 pin round connector of the Yaesu FNB-78 rechargeable battery (the connector to be connected to the charger).

I tried two times to post this question in the FT-897 Yahoo group, but the moderators choosed to stop my message. Perhaps they're Yaesu people ?

Thanks and 73s

12  eHam Forums / Elmers / TS950SDX and 1.8 kHz filter on: June 08, 2006, 05:41:11 AM
When I switch to the 1.8 kHz I loose something between 1 or 2 S points with respect to the 2.7 and 5.0 kHz filters.
I would know if is is normal (due to the partial signal truncation with respect to the other filters) or my 1.8 kHz filter is partially broken ?

Thanks and 73

13  eHam Forums / Elmers / TS-950sdx battery replacement on: January 06, 2006, 03:33:57 PM
I need to replace the lythium battery on my Kenwood TS-950sdx.
I found no instructions nor on the user manual nor on the service manual. Nor in internet.
Someone could send me some hints ?
Thanks and 73.

14  eHam Forums / Elmers / SWR with Dummy Load on: June 10, 2005, 03:33:44 PM
Rob, please excuse me if I bother You, but that problem is intriguing.
The 78L00 series can whitstant up to 30V, I don't think your wall power supply delivered more than that. Different situation if the power supply delivered a reversed polarity: bang ! And that bang could have damaged also some active components like fets or op amps.
For the diode: Youre right the dvm could damage the diode. You can measure the current flowing between ohmeter terminals shorted toghether with an ammeter. I think if You manage for less than, let say, 10mA You can almost safely test the conduction on the diodes. Or You can measure with the dvm connected as voltmeter the voltage to the groud measured on the anode and cathode of the rectifiers diodes: they must be the same on both devices and the measure is safe.

Rob, I saw Your fwd/rev results. It seems that's a large unbalancing into your swr meter.
Reading the diagram of the FC-102, I note there are no balance control between the two detectors and the "zeroing" with VR04 is only for fwd meter.
The more, The fwd diode is biased via a +9V supply, a resistor and another conducting diode D03 ground connected. A failure on the +9V supply (or diode, or resistor, or the amplifiers contained into the "peak hold unit", or resistive trimmers) could cause a big misreading.
Something is wrong, but I'm not sure is any of the detectors diodes.
Perhaps You can start checking "in circuit" the components of the detector with an electronic multimeter.
