4  eHam Forums / Digital / Digital signal recognition on: April 21, 2006, 11:49:46 AM
Even better, does anyone know of a piece of software that will recognize a digital mode as soon as you tune it on the waterfall?
I use MixW which is a great program, but doesn't auto recognize a mode. You have to select it from a drop down menu.
I'd like to see a piece of software that would flag the mode in a pop-up window when you tune it on the waterfall.
Sound files can be helpful, but the problem is that some modes have options which change their on the air sound (data rate, bandwidth, number of tones, etc).
Anyone know of anything currently available or in the works? I'd even PAY for a program like that!

Anybody using FNpsk for emergency communication on a regular basis?
6  eHam Forums / Digital / IBM 600E/PSK31 on: November 04, 2005, 11:12:10 AM
I had the same problem...noise in the Crystal soundcard. I bought an i-Mic USB sound adapter from Griffin Technologies and it cleaned up the problem...clean TX waveform too. Best $30 I ever spent!
7  eHam Forums / Digital / Digital Interface for ICOM 718 on: November 04, 2005, 11:01:32 AM
I'm using the -718 with Buxcomm's Rascal...works fine. I did have a problem with my IBM Thinkpad 600E's Crystal soundcard...very noisy. When I fired up Digipan, all I got was gibberish on PSK. I bought an i-Mic USB sound adapter from Griffin Technologies and it cleaned up the noise big time...well worth the 30 bucks!

9  eHam Forums / Digital / Digipan gibberish ? on: June 07, 2005, 08:16:36 AM
I had a lot of problems with gibberish and it turned out to be my laptop soundcard. I have an IBM Thinkpad 600E, which has a Crystal soundcard. The soundcard noise is what caused the gibberish. Someone in the forum posted a reference to the Griffin Technologies iMic USB sound adapter. I bought one, and what a difference! The iMic cleaned up the waterfall display, and now I have no problem copying even weak PSK31 signals. It's a $30 investment. Well worth the money!

I had a lot of problems with noise on my 600E. Same thing...a bunch of garbage when I tried to tune a PSK31 station. The 600E uses a crystal soundcard which appears to be really noisy. I read a post on the digial forum which described a USB sound interface from Griffin Technologies called iMic. I bought one and it cleaned up the noise like you wouldn't believe!
You gotta try this....costs $30, and it's well worth it.
