Power Sonic
2  eHam Forums / Elmers / Name: HT or walkie talkie? on: June 16, 2008, 12:38:50 PM
All good looking planes. I just read on another web site you can get all 72 episodes of "sky king" for $249 which is not a great deal, I'll wait for the price to drop.
3  eHam Forums / Elmers / Name: HT or walkie talkie? on: June 15, 2008, 06:17:44 PM
Depends upon the episodes.  Earlier programs had the Cessna T50 while later programs had the Cessna 310B.  Both good looking airplanes and while on the subject of good looking, Penny was a babe.
4  eHam Forums / Elmers / Governor Mitt Romney Insults Ham Radio - Video on: January 22, 2008, 11:37:16 AM
This crap belongs over at QRZ ragchew section. Keep eHam Elmers section for teaching and learning ham radio and electronics.
5  eHam Forums / Elmers / DSP on: January 21, 2008, 07:27:46 AM
Here's a good analogy.  Using DSP is like cooking with spices, a little goes a long ways. I use just enough noise reduction to reduce noise but not enough to muddy the audio.   The same for eliminating nearby signal interference, but not enough to make the audio harsh or squeaky. I used the MFJ DSP filter (784) and while it works, I was unhappy with the results, too much effort. A good analog radio is a pleasure to listen to and I rarely use DSP.
6  eHam Forums / Elmers / "Quiet" antennas on: January 16, 2008, 12:44:49 PM
Keep one antenna for transmitting and the other for listening. Bury the one for listening about 8 inches down in ground and reception gets real quiet.  The signals may be low, but so is the noise.
7  eHam Forums / Elmers / Ameritron Video Tour on: December 29, 2007, 08:04:45 AM
17 and 18 I believe.  Since I very likely will not get down Mississippi any time soon, the video tour is very good.
8  eHam Forums / Elmers / FT-920 : Output power drop on some bands on: November 25, 2007, 11:56:22 AM
I had a problem with my first Yaesu 920. On 10 meters it had very low output when I first turned on the rig.  Over a period of 90 minutes, the output would slowly increase to full output.  I sent it Yaesu service and they were stumped.  Sent me a replacment rig.  Don't know.
9  eHam Forums / Elmers / What’s up with tube prices? on: November 18, 2007, 07:58:08 AM
I wouldn't be surprised if prices come down again in 12 - 24 months, especially if hording occurs.  Right now things are a little out of balance by supply and demand, most as a result of currency fluctuations. As for causes these changes are a result of many years of economic decisions by governments, businesses and individuals.  To assume anything else is a fairly good display of ignorance.
10  eHam Forums / Elmers / HEX BEAM vs 2el STEPPIR on: October 22, 2007, 05:34:40 AM
Your question is do I install a tower or do I install a TV mast. If your installing a tower, you might consider something more than a 2 el Steppir.
11  eHam Forums / Elmers / hooking up on: October 17, 2007, 12:59:05 PM
Skip the low pass filter, they usually aren't needed on modern day rigs.
12  eHam Forums / Elmers / Time to upgrade my TS-430. What should I buy? on: September 13, 2007, 07:06:48 AM
Take a look at a used ICOM Pro II or III.  The same with Yaesu Mark V Field. You may not get them for under $1K, but it will be within $200 to $300 of that limit.
13  eHam Forums / Elmers / DXing on: August 15, 2007, 12:36:26 PM
RG8U expedition?
14  eHam Forums / Elmers / An Idea To Promote Ham Radio on: July 28, 2007, 07:22:38 AM
This is pretty much analogous to  getting a free toaster when you open up a new checking account at the bank.  It doesn’t work.
15  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / Heathkit sb-221 on: July 27, 2007, 11:10:07 AM
Heathkit is still in business, but not our business.  They sell technical/computer education packages to vocational schools. See www.heathkit.com
