I found the noise. It was a battery charger for one of those electric scooters I bought for my kids for Christmas a few years ago. Now I can call the electrical company and tell them all is well. They were gonna call before they came out anyway, but I will make sure they don't waste a trip. Thanks, y'all for the input.

In all the years I have lived at this QTH, I have never had a line noise issue. Suddenly I have S9 to 40dB over 9 line noise. I called the electrical company and told them what I was experiencing. What should I expect from them? Will they try to fix this? Will they know how? What should I do? What if they tell me it is not their problem and I will have to live with it?

While tuning up my AL-82 the other day, I noticed a sudden drop in power level...then sudden return to full power. While operating the power level went up and down sporadically. What does this sound like? Antenna problem? Coax problem? Amp going crazy? Level changes were always instantaneous.

Bill, I'm glad you got it fixed. I was sure glad to be QRO again! Now I can continue my survey of what messes up the neighbor's TV watching the most.....my AL-82 or my bagpipes ha ha ha! Just be careful when your inside that amp. Leave it unplugged and don't get the hell shocked out of you!

I go it fixed. There was an open resistor between the step-start relay and the safety switch. I replaced that and now I have HV again. I appreciate the input from y'all as well as from the guys at Ameritron. I'm happy now. I feel naked when I'm not QRO!

Its not putting out any power at all. I'm just wondering what could have ghone out all of a sudden. It worked fine when I turned it off last night. This morning it was dead as a doornail. Everything works except HV. DO transformers go out that fast?

Well, after enjoying nearly no line noise whatsoever, a new line was put in right by my house. The new line is no closer than the old line, but its funny now I always have about an s3 line noise to contend with. They are putting in a trailor park behind my property...I can hardly wait. Should I get the power company to come check the line for spurious emmisions? WWYD? (what would y'all do?)

The problem has been resolved. The guy cut down a tree he was supposed to leave. By the way, the utility company had nothing to do with this. The landlord told him what trees to cut and he cut the wrong ones. Anyway the tree guy came over tonight after hearing I was really pissed and agreed to use his skidder to move the downed trees so I can get the remains of my antenna. Its fixable. The landlord is putting in a trailer park behind me and will be getting a line run soon. I can hardly wait(please detect sarcasm here!) Anyway....all are happy for now in this little town where men are men and sheep are afraid....or where men are men and so are the women!

Well...here it is...my landlord told me some guys were coming to cut down some trees to make way for a new power line. He said they would be here in three weeks, but they came today. There was a G5RV in the trees, easily visible, and could have been taken down in two mintues or less be untying three knots and letting it fall to the ground. Instead of knocking on the door to ask me to remove the antenna, they just pulled it apart and destroyed it when the tree came down. When I asked where my antenna was. the subcontractor said, "You should have been out here when you heard us working." Well...I hear tractors, chainsaws, lawnmowers etc all the time in my neighborhood, so I didn't think anything of it. If my car were in the way, or maybe my kids bicycles, I would think he would have the sense to move them or ask me to move them, but he didnt do this with my antenna. It should be obvious that since there is a Gap Titan in my back yard, some kind of radio operations go on at my house, and sense there is a transmission line going to the G5RV, that would be part of the station, you would think. Who do I sue, the contractor, sub-contractor or both? Do I need to get the sheriff to make a report? WWYD? (what would y'all do?) I believe they owe me an antenna. Kelly

Well..I got it used and the inside looked great. No signs of anything drastic. I may try to tune it up on a dipole and see what happens. Nothing looked burned out on the band switch and the tune and load capacitors looked like new.
