436  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: DXCC Card Checking on: October 31, 2011, 09:11:41 PM
Has anyone received any QSL's from FO/F6CTL ?

I sent direct for mine right after he shut down operations in July. Nothing yet for those 4 QSO's, 3 countries.

"It means you're supposed to determine their operating pattern by listening to the QSOs they make -- ideally, before you start calling."

That doesn't work when the skip is long. I.E. I don't hear the other U.S. stations the DX is working say after dark on 17 meters.
The DX should announce the frequency or range.

From one who has a number 1 plaque, and since first of the year has worked 225 mobile.

Learn and use CW. At least program those memory buttons.

Put up some kind of beam antenna for at least 15 - 10 meters. Better yet, have 20 meters with it. Place it as high as possible.
A cubical quad will work at 40 feet. Better higher for tough path DX.

Use the wire antennas for 30 and 40 meters. Work these bands around SR/SS.

An amp will help, but you ruled that out. FB. My 225 DXCC QSO's mobile are with 100 watts.

I read lots of good advice. One that really stuck with me, considering LOTW, is work digital for the confirmation.

Let's all hope we have a great cycle this time.

Did you notice this on his QRZ.com posting ?

"and my next Holiday on Hawaii."

This was part of his request for $2.

I got a good laugh. I hope the card shows up !

"Does the P5 spotted on 80M this evening count as a DX rumor?"

Counts for a good laugh !!

Maybe some dreaming ?

A52PP was a good copy for me from the mobile. Truly 559. I called a few times, but as slow as the come backs were, I decided the effort was futile. Not a chance mobile from Texas with 100 watts to get through all the callers.

I heard some VU's pretty well too, but not stronger than S5. I did get through to JV5A. Third or fourth JT this year mobile. First on 17 meters.

That was a mess. The phoney spotter actually knew a lot about recent and past DX activity.

The node sysops should have been looking for this impostor, and take action. We possibly should have a report.

Too bad some could not let it go. It got nasty.

K0RS says "Now I work DX for fun, which I believe is what it's all about. "

That pretty much sums it. Me keeping track of my mobile DX this year is largely a personal thing. Bill Moore won't do a mobile endorsement or a call with such.
I have like 221 countries worked mobile this year.

I got the 3X last night on 30M, but not sure if he got the /M in the call. Either way is fine with ARRL. Oh wait, I already have it confirmed with N5UD.

Now TX7M is mostly new for me. I got lucky with some QSO's last night. Worked them mobile with 100 watts. I worked F6CTL in July, but still waiting for QSL.

Lets back up to 1965. That's when I got licensed. It seemed there was a theme of helping your fellow amateur. Now CONTESTS once on was a different matter.
It was common in those days for the better station to help the lesser station make a contact with a DX station. Let's say Whit with his stacked yagis had a DX station in QSO. Or he had heard me with dipole and 100 watts calling in a crowd. He may ask the DX to standby for another station that had been calling. Usually the DX didn't care. Usually the DX and the lesser station could actually hear each other when the frequency was clear.

I used to work contests. I also had good antennas and amplifiers. I had attained a number #1 honor roll in the 90's. I also think the league has caused this current dog eat dog condition. I have said so before. Leaderboard seems to add fuel to this condition. I have no problem with the online log.

I currently only operate HF from my pickup truck. I have not had a home station station 2001. I actually work a lot of DX. I also miss many that I hear. Of course some I barely hear. However other times I have missed getting "a new one" with a  true S7-S9 signal. When I say new, I mean never worked before by me as mobile or not at all since I had a number 1, on any band or mode. I have been fortunate in that any "new one" for honor roll I have been able to work this year. I am 7 away from #1

I find it wild that I have worked my way back to honor roll with 100 watts mobile from Texas. I do still need the QSL's from some of these, like ST0. No I didn't work them 17 times. Only 20 phone and CW. I would liked to have worked them on 40 CW, but could not get through. must have been 4 or 5 nights I was out mobile, and could hear them, at times a S7. Just the way it is.

As this is a forum to discuss DX. All responses should have equal weight. The posters should be shown courtesy.

Hey need that one mobile. What is best time and freq for a QSO from Texas ?

"and general dumb ops who made him give up"

I hear all the time these days. The DX goes back to xyz and the whole world is calling or xyz really can't hear the DX. The DX repeatedly calls xyz.
or xyz can't copy CW.

It gets tiresome.

I don't like the current insanity in amateur radio in regards to band slots, club log, leader boards, and etc.

To work a RARE DX station on a couple of modes, and bands should make any DXer happy. The big guns getting a rare location on 9 bands plus, may keep an average station (modest amp or 100 watts) from just getting the DX on any band. It is PIGish.

My two cents.

Good gosh even from the noise in the mobile I hear guys miss call signs, including their own, a large percent of the time.

I'll get home, check the "cluster", and chuckle at the missed call signs spotted. I got licensed in 1965, and have been somewhat active most of that time.

What has happened to ham radio, and DXing in particular ? LIDS are abundant world wide.

It appears they have worked all the currently active would be DXers. I have worked them about 12 times mobile 75M through 10M. Most QSO's one call. I certainly did not stick around. Just rewarding un-answered CQ's.

Jacek is a one man show. In an email to me some time back, he was not bringing much gear, and antennas. he told me his main interest would be Top Band and 80M. Secondly 12 - 17 meters. All on CW. I think he had a 70 kilo limit.

I worked Anne on 3 or 4 bands while I was mobile. Sent SASE very soon after she QRT. No card for me. She did upload LOTW over several days in July. She had some problems with that, BUT I think she got LOTW fixed. I had a few emails with her over LOTW being incomplete in July. No contact since.

Again, no QSLs for me. I don't know what the problem is.
