This is real sad to hear. If you have never talked to Don or been honored to have met him, you have missed knowing a legend. I will pass to my children and grandchildren his book "Everything you forgot about HF Mobileering".
Thanks Don, 73's    didahdit  didit  didahdahdit

2  eHam Forums / Elmers / Radials on: February 22, 2007, 10:41:02 AM
I'm returning to the hobby after 25 years, and to many this may sound like a dumb question but I needto ask.
I live in a senior living facility and my apartment faces a 40 degree upsloping hill.
I have a Cushcraft 6BTV and I want to add radials to it, but I want to know if I place the radials in a position going from the radial plate upwards at an angle relative to the hill (40dgs), will I get some sort of RF feedback going back to the antenna because the base will be lower than the radials, or am I thinking wrong, which at this point in life is SOP.
  Thanks,
               73 Ron N6VQQ
3  eHam Forums / Elmers / Kenwood TS 480SAT on: February 07, 2007, 01:15:09 AM
I have purchased a TS480SAT, and am interested in the digital mode PSK31.
I have never done this, and I have been out of the hobby for quite awhile now and I need to know if I need to purchase SIGNALINK to make my unit work well.
I have had many answers and one from a tech at signalink that gave a good reason, but reality is he works for or is the company.
I just need a straight answer asto whether this unit needs extraneous help to operate in that mode, or is the capability really built in.
I will greatly appreciate any and all comments on this, and I thank you now for it.

Best bet is to check www.mods.dk they have most of the information and manuals for many units, and it's free.

That type of price increase has really put a crimp on my thoughts of buying another 706.
Yes it may be a good radio, but as far as Icom showing the Ham Community at large that they want their business, I think they're trying to "give us the business" if you know what I mean.
Oh well, looks like I become an Yaesu owner.

Hi,
Go to www.dxer.org and I think you will find a hugh amount of information.
It is called DX Notebook, you can also type that into Google and it will show you.

To K8ML;
I'm not trying to create  an ongoing debate about this, but I'd at least like to know "what" you are talking about.
Seems to me like everyone here is now, or has been a paying subscriber.
So your "BOO HOO" non-sequitar response is not understood.
And before you respond with a verbal attack on me, I am not trying to demean you, I just would like you to explain.

To WU7X,
Thank you for your reply, I have become a subscriber, and will maintain this status for as long as I am in ham radio, because I have come to realize that this forum, and the entire website represents and defines what we all enjoy.
So, I thank all of the contributors who by posting their information on varied subjects, give a good range of opinions that can be sorted out by each of us in our own way, I know that I have been helped in buying equipment and seeking more knowledge about things.
To all, "Many Years of Fun DXing and Ragchewing", and to the new hams, welcome and enjoy this most interesting hobby.
73's to all and to all a goodnight (LOL)

To N3MIQ,
Thank you for covering me on what this person said, I appreciate your backup.
I really felt that I didn't want to even answer his comments, but maybe this will do for him:
To K1CJS: I have a very good life, as a matter of fact, I led a very productive life caring for people who were sick, mostly Burn patients, who received my 100% best of care that I could give under the circumstances.
Now I don't know what part of "get a life" I did not attain, but I tell you this, I like others have posted an "opinion" on several matters that this forum affords us to do, it is an "opinion" that was tendered, not a testimony of the lifestyle that I am living, (are you following me?).
So please, don't give anyone who may post an objection on this forum, a demeaning response, I'm sure you are a better individual than that.

To N2MG & All Posters.
I must apologize again for a wrong asumption re: having to pay to put something up for sale. I should have inquired before I replied.
So, with that done, to Eham thanks for explaining, and I will check before speaking again.

11  eHam Forums / Misc / Motorola Visar Manual Needed on: April 05, 2004, 03:03:10 AM
Hi,
I believe that unit is like the GP-334 by Motorola.
I checked www.mods.dk and they have some information on Motorolas, you should check on the GP-300 manual they have, and maybe it will give you some idea.
I also tried Google and it gave some sites that the server will translate, and you might get lucky and find a European dealer who has some old manuals.
   Good luck,  73  Ron

Hi,
Before I replied, I checked the website:
www.mods.dk which has a lot of mods and is a very good site.
I did find what you are looking for, so go there and have at it.

I absolutely agree on that. It's charging a fee to sell something and then charging a fee to look at it.
But with respect to Eham, please gives us a reason for this action, or you might be loosing customers for the people trying to sell their merchandise.
  Poor concept IMHO!
14  eHam Forums / Misc / ICOM 7800 Price on: March 08, 2004, 04:58:25 AM
WOW!!! The engineers at Icom must all have High End SUV'S  that need to have their gas tanks filled.
I'm  would assume that this is a Great unit to demand such a high price, but "Get Real Icom", this IMHO is way out of line.
I for one would be scared as $%#@! if I had one of these units, and it broke down.
This could be one reason that we are losing a lot of great people from this hobby, mainly gear that is out of reach, but in this instance "out of touch with reality" again, IMHO.
I wonder if "Gigaparts" will have this as a contest give away. LOL

N6AJR,
I wish I lived closer to an HRO so I could check out all the units that I might be interested in.
But I live in Sacramento, and wouldn't you know it, they don't have one near, only in Oakland, and thats a ways to go for a "look see".
But  your input is well received, and when I get to that area, I will certainly check it out, as well as checking out the product inputs on this site.
     Thanks again,
       73 Ron N6VQQ
p.s. I wonder if Arnold is a "Ham", maybe he could get HRO to put a store here, after all, we are the capitol of California.
